Over the past few days, I have noticed that some people (myself included)are genuinely interested in compiling news articles and posting them on the forum.

But i have noticed that some of these articles never receive a reply and the whole forum is kinda spammed.

IMHO, It wuld be helpful if we had a seperate forum/section for general news articles. Mobile phone related news can be posted on the relevant areas, but floodidng the Mobile Phone free zone with news articles doesn't seem to be a great idea to me. What do you folks think?

Well I noticed boba has been doing it and today I thought I would help him today by posting a few but if no-one finds them interesting then.....

Anyway, what harm is it doing?

@whizkidd, I agree 100% and I'd like it to stop right now please (I was just about to write something similar here)

the posting of general items of limited interest is useless. We can all go to BBC or annanova and read this stuff.

There is also copyright issues as we don't have the right to simply cut and paste articles like that

News postings should be limited to items that are in some way related to phones, gadgetry, useful knowledge etc and not these tidbits of sensationalism

I'll be removing stuff I don't think we need but I'd prefer if more consideration was given before it was posted in the first place

why not one big thread where we can post all the general news

I agree with whiz

@golden - it does not harm but then again there are sooo many threads all of a sudden, u dont have time to go thru all of them and it just looks like the forum's being cluttered

@gov - that way a lot of stuff might be missed in between, and people cant skip news they dont want to know about

Yeah, certain people are throwing articles across the forum with gusto, and its messing it up

Posted by goldenface
OK I understand

Relevant news thats gadget related.

If I see any I'll post.

I posted this on the locked "New news editor" thread

Now, I see alot of forums working with a "back page news" section on the forum, it means that anybody can post a news and "news mods" are making the decission if it's worth the frontpage or not. Even if it's not really worth frontpage it stays on that particular forum so anybody can read it anyway.

That way anybody can participate in the news section of the site whitout having special rights.

but no one seemed to care except carkitter ...

i think everyone is missing axxxrs complete randomness

100% correct, he is still here in spirit

He is gone, get over it!

@masseur hard to decide what is interesting for who, what is useful or useless, especially without any experiences on news area. I miss the news here, more the director of those...

I actually never thought about the copyright part while posting articles.

But we did provide links to the origignal page..

Posted by BobaFett
Indeed, copyrights are very serious things, but i studied axxxr' way before i started to post news and he made it on the same way, copy-insert. Of course its hard to avoid to break the law, thatswhy is a well trained and good informed - in news and copyright area - the best solution for esato's interest and members emtertaining.

Instead of a New section of the forum, just have one general news thread.

If you think there's something people need to read about make a post, have a link to the site so no to breach copyright laws, and a small paragraph describing what's in the link and what it's about.

One news thread with lots of posts it better than lots of news threads with no posts

I am in favour for the suggestion posted by Jim where everyone can add news, but that they have to be confirmed by a news editor before they are listed on the front page.

Copyright is an issue. It is not possible to cut-n-past from articles found somewhere on the web. axxxr tried this in the begining and it did not take long before the owners contacted me and asked me to remove the articles. Press releases spiced with comments are of course legal.

@laffen, i dont seem to have understood Jims sugestion exactly. How would this, if implemented work here on Esato?

Posted by masseur
currently, posting news items, as seen on the front page, involves two steps.

The first is creating the content, including pictures and words, but this is not yet visible on the front page.

The second step is to actually publish it so that it is visible.

I suspect general members will be granted access to do the first while the approval and ability to publish will remain with a restricted few

Example on how it works on neowin.net, it's an open forum for news articles where anyone can post an article (with guidelines to follow) and there are "news moderator" that puts the article on the front page if it's worth it, if not well it just stay there for the amusement of all
