yeah, mine has all that too, but the flaw in yours is the crappy amd 1.6ghz cpu. you did not specify how much ram you have, so i expect it to be 533mhz, and 1gb.
@fatreg: my lappy took 10 minutes to install xp, and 20 mins to install vista. upgrading from vista to vista took 40mins in total.

Here is a unique image, first on esato at least.
That first window is Suse Linux running beryl (3d effects window manager) on vista!!

My Desktop:
Compaq V2020 laptop (now 2 years old)
Pentium M 1.6GHz, 256Mb RAM, 40GB HDD (still 27 Gig unused)
Windows XP sp2, IE7, Office 2007 Home & Student Edition
A great combination for me, not changing anytime soon.

Been using vista for some time now so here's a screenie of my vista desktop.....plain and simple with not too many icons
Notice the untitled.jpg on the desktop....for some strange reason i find that thumbnail quite amusing.
@johnex your ram score seems a bit off mate. I get 5.1 with my 2gigs of archaic ddr1.
Posted by fatreg
azureus on the top of your programs clank?
someone do a lot of downloading? or do you jsut not use your comp?

Here's another 'shot of my screen, like Johnex's: (makes it the 2nd on Esato!)
Posted by Johnex
@arien617: notice that the first open window is LINUX, that is why its an esato first
Posted by arien617
I thought you were talking about the cascading windows were a first, didn't notice it you were talking about linux.

@johnex, that's pretty cool, how did you manage to get Linux running in a window on Vista?
Posted by fatreg
deluded..
it looks to me like hes using parallels that you get on a mac..
the buttons are the same...
but they dont make parallels for PC.. so i guess its something similar..
EDIT: http://www.parallels.com/en/products/workstation/
is what he's using...

Whoa... That's interesting, you can get OSX running on a normal PC? PM for you, @Johnex!
Posted by Johnex
Now, here is one for my man deluded, and for fatreg, i hope this one impresses you:
So, why is it that i need an ugly white screen again?
Posted by fatreg
why would that impress me??
i've got the same but it other ways..
i've a mac, running osx, vista, xp and ubuntu beryl..

Posted by Johnex
Might not have been you that said that macs where superior than pcs.
Posted by deluded
Heh... I must admit it's pretty cool, I didn't know you could run the Mac OS on a PC. I thought that was why people got a Mac anyway (apart from them looking good of course). I guess with Macs running on the Intel chips now, it's not that difficult to get them running on PCs huh?
Posted by Johnex
well, i am running the power pc version on vista, there is no way to run the x86 version yet.

Show me then.

Slight issue. I've only got a mac. I don't own a native pc anymore. But you can get osx 10.4.7 on an intel pc no probs. You can't get it on an amd machine though!
Fatreg
Posted by Johnex
but i am talking about running it in a window. It is damn easy to get it to run on from a partition on its own.
Posted by fatreg
you want parallels to run osx??
surely you just choose the free BSD option??
fatreg
Posted by Johnex
do you have a link for information man?
Posted by fatreg
im guessing.. but logic tells me thats the option you'd want
fatreg
Posted by Johnex
aww yess

still get a mac..
pc's suck!

vista sucks! end of. i know that it runs ALOT faster than xp on dual core systems, simply because xp can't handle dual cores and only uses one of them... as for us guys with computers that only barely touch the vista requirements, it sucks! my comp's spec is:
* athlon xp 2500+ @ 1826(i think!)mhz
* 512 ram (ddr) @ 333mhz
* 128 ddr gfx (nvidia geforce 5700) - it's a bleedin brilliant card for me! i only ordered a crappy one and they didn't have any of them left although was still showing up as did on the web - at the time this card was well over 150quid and the one i ordered was about 20! i was well happy!
* dvd writer all the normal stuff...although i still have a normal cd writer there aswell.
* sound card! lol
* a crap motherboard - syntaxusa sv400...it's crap!
and well anything else i've left out is kinda bottom-grade vista stuff.
I installed vista ultimate, which i acquired from a well known source (not pcworld!). It actually ran faster than my xp install had been at that time! After that I switched to linux for a few weeks and then went back to xp because of school work and stuff - all in all, xp is much faster - my desktop is this:
and it seems that it's that wide because i have my tele as second display...although it doesn't actually work properly :S i have an old tele, ok?!?
anyway, all in all - i want a mac...just my computer is a crappy old sse processor and it'd mean emulating sse2+3 processes which it wouldn't be too good at!
any chance anyone knows anywhere to get a set of mac os x powerpc cds / a dvd from? (other than the apple store
basically...running xp now, my computer totally rocks - does anything i want to throw at it atm...i WOULD buy a mac, just i don't have the money...or the time to learn the little niggles to use it...i know they're easier than old macs!

@kahmeelo
Do you run an early beta edition of Windows Vista?
Posted by Evil Eye
@alexandra i think its the vista customization pack
Posted by Alexandra
It's just that the early betas had that kind of start button, not the Start Orb.

Erm, what you on about???
My XP has been using duel core fine for the past 2 years.....there's even an official AMD application called dual core optimizer.
It uses both cores fine, even shows the dual core processor activities for each core.
Vista uses the cores *better* yes, but don't know where you got your info from!

@solja786
I feel the same way too, I really like Macs, because they are faster, and they look great. But the problem is that in my country they are too expensive, comparing to US, or Germany... I wanted to buy a Mac, but I didn't want to spent that much money on it. If I can't have a Mac i can at least have the look
