notice the lens was abit dirty from the sweet so wiped it with cloth and somehow the lens lost its shinny side to it when i hold it up to the light.

why does this happen ? i wiped my W800i same way and its always shinny and dosent get scratched...

i think its the plastic lens cover on the W810i is not very good...

ps. is that the full camera thats attached to the lens or is there another lenz after the first layer ???

cheers

The camera lens is way behind the protective, optically flat "screen". You will see photo of the camera module with it's smaller optical lens down on this page:

Just take a look into the lens of your mobile... you see?

Many owners of SLR cameras have permanently mounted a UV or Skylight filter on their valuable objectives, partly to protect the front lens. Cheaper and easier to replace in case accident happens...

i cant find that pic of the dismantled w810-

is the plastic "lens" immediately accesible part of the back cover assembly, or is it actually mounted onto the phone (and the assembly only has a hole in it?

my lens has a scratch too. RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX! Scratch proof? Yea right. So yea, does anyone know if the lens can is part of the replaceable housing of the phone?

Mine seems to have a layer rubbed off too. You can see it clearly in sunlight.
It seems as though a plastic coated layer is there and this wears off after time. I'm not sure what it's designed to protect though.

Also, I have noticed some of my photographs not as clear as they used to be.. This could be the reason why.

Perhaps if the whole coating would come off it might be ok again....

No it wont get ok if the coating comes off completely
.
The plastic lens is replaceable. Simple remove the back cover, and carefully pry out the scratched plastic lens with a paperknife. Be very caerful while doing this.
Also, you're much better off consulting your optician to replace that crappy bit of transparent plastic with a better, scratch-resistant glass lens. That's what i have done to my K750.
Preferably get a lens with anti-glare coating otherwise, you'll encounter lens flasre in most night shots.

Don't have the digicam with me right now, might post some pics later.

this doesn't sound nice. I'm being shipped a w810 in the next days. does it scratch easily? is it inevitable?

Had my w810 about 2 months, no scratches on lens or screen so far. I have a protective screen on mine which is a good idea.

I know this may sound daft but at night when i go to bed and put my phone on charge I cover the phone in a handkerchief. Simple reason being...DUST

My K750 got dust in it all the time, this helps it.

Got my protector from guy called lcdguard on ebay. He was selling them buy one get one free, good job really cos i messed up my 1st one lol.

I suppose that's only for the screen, so no protection on camera?...

Posted by procterdc
No protection for the camera but having said that i have been really careful and its fine.

ok, I also take good care of my stuff so it's gonna be fine with me too when I get it.

well, I have noticed some tiny scratches on the lens layer too. it hasn't affected picture quality so far, but it's annoying just how easily it can get scratched. stupid plastic coating.

After a month or so, mine is scratched too, and I've been very carefull ( Will it have a negative effect on the pictures, if i place a piece of screenprotection film on the lense?

Posted by Bezzz
@nabu28, I'll would for sure try it. Take a pic with and without it, if the diff. is not really visible its ok and your lens is protected!

Had mine something like 4 months. The first 2 with the original back cover
and martin fields protectors (theirs comes with a camera lens protector too !)
so no scratches or marks. Now it has a 750i back cover and matching battery
cover - so no scratches now

I'll go for the try then. Just ordered a pack of Martin Fields'

thanks

Just buy a case from SE for the fone and carry it in that.. Much simpler and you protect all the fone.
