Hi all,

recently bought a car and found that insurance is verryy expensive.

the cheapest i have found is on "budget" via confused.com ....

Using my dads no claims bonus and protecting it would cost £1140.

Any know of anything better? Can use my dads 6 years no claims but it needs to be protected

cheers

Depends on the car that your driving, pref the size of the engine, where the car is stored i.e if on the front drive more than in the garage and also have you done any other advanced driving courses? They tend to bring the insurance down also.

car - peugeot 206 with engine size 1.4

i typed all i can 2 lower the price e.g. kept in a garage.

its still pretty expensive

If you have an alarm grade 3 or above you get cheaper insurance. Something like that.

hehe yea.

£1000 is the cheapest you will get in my opinion, how old are you 17/18? that is reasonable i have known people your age to pay a hell of alot more than that.

My cousin passed his test when he was 17, and the cheapest quote he got for his 1 litre, group 2 mini was 1300 quid

not sure if youve tried a quote using this - get your dad to insure the car in his name as the main driver then you go onto his insurance as a named driver for the car. sometimes that can be cheaper for under 25 .
failing that shop around for a company that specialises in younger drivers or first time drivers i googled it and found some links you could try-
http://www.google.co.uk/searc[....]rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

slattery69's suggestion is a good one, go as a named driver, but just remember when you do want to be put down as the owner it still may cost quite alot.

Not sure how it works, does the insurance become cheaper later on if you have been a named driver for a couple of years or not?

Failing that have a sex change!!!

well its £670 just for my brother and dad. but if im added its £1019

what is i just drive under my bros name :/

Posted by leeboy13
just beware when youre a named driver as if you have an accident youre normally only covered third party....

Best thing to do is suck it up and pay the grand matey... that way (fingers crossed you'll have no crashes) and your insurance will go down next year.... im looking forward to this years quote... i will be 25 and have 5 years no claims - woohoo!

Yeah that is a good idea aswell, do that for a couple of years. Although my mum has been driving for years she has only owned a car for the last 4 years.

She started paying around £800 third party to start with now she is fully comprehensive with me insured fully aswell for like £300 a year. And i have never owned a car (been driving 2 1/2 years)

Being a women does have its advantages.

just had a quote of under £600 from asda

Posted by haynesycop
bloody hell that is cheap!

Posted by brownlad007
yea lol. have to do it 4 times to believe it

Posted by haynesycop
How did you wangle that, is it under your dad, fully comp or third party?

Posted by brownlad007
under my dad... had license for 9+yrs. no claims bonus of 7 years and protected. then me and bro as 2nd and 3rd drivers

sometimes it's cheaper to have someone as a MAIN driver and you as the secondary or vice versa.

Posted by brownlad007
yea. this is the best deal for me i think

thats a good price but will you earn your own no claims while on that policy? believe me stumping up the extra cash at first will save you money in the long term, unless of course your happy to be a named driver forever.

Posted by brownlad007
i wont be able to build up my own no claims. ill do that when i about 20
