hi all,
bought my laptop a couple months ago from dell. Just this problem has started this morning, the laptop will not turn on without the power cable. If i take the power cable out while it is on, the laptop will just go off, no shut down or anything just straight off.
any ideas :s ? i think ive got a 90 day warranty

Is the battery a bit loose (or the contact pins)?

when you plug the cable in with the battery in, do you have an LED light (that indicated the battery's status) on? Is it the charging color or charged color?
If it's not on, it means there's probably a battery fault or connector fault as abs pointed out. If it IS on, then it means the battery is drained.
It's recommended that you discharge the battery completely once a month.

If only everything was as easily sorted.
Glad it's fixed.

great to see it's been solved
@anay, to discharge it's basically just emptying it.
Just use your laptop with max brightness and play a dvd till it's absolutely drained.

anyone know how to turn the brightness down?
when i plug the power cable in, the brightness of the screen automatically goes brighter.

It'll be in the manual. With my lapy brighter is fn(function) f10 and dimmer is fn f11

with my toshiba it's fn and F6 for brightness down.
Look at your keyboard and you should an icon of an arrow down and a sun.

anyone know how to find out my laptops mac address?

Click start, run, type in cmd and press enter. In the black window, type in ipconfig /all. The numbers and letters next to 'physical address' is the same as the mac address.
Bear in mind that it's possible to have more than one mac address, for example if you have a wireless adaptor as well as a standard network port.
