New cover for the 6610, that's about it.. and still no Bluetooth.

Using the same thinking SE could have had 5 "different" phones.

All beeing T68's just with different covers.

Silly !

cool design i like it.......i think SE will be left behind if they will not move quickly. people actually dont need bluetooth or something expensive add-ons right? so i hope SE will create something cool and great again like T68.

the 40 poly thing sounds pretty much like the 16 poly one... i highly doubt there is use for more than 24 (or even more than 16) simultanious sounds... so far when browsing for midis i only found 12 channel ones as max... and they sound great...

Midi has 16 channels; that means you can have 16 different instruments playing at once. In addition, each channel can play a number of notes at the same time. I'm not sure of that limit on modern midi-chips (usually around 32 divided on all channels); but it seems when it says "40" it's the limit of concurrent notes - not channels.

But I agree that 40 simultaneous voices is ridiculous. Especially since the speakers on those phones are infinitely small. You can synthesize a symphony orchestra with 16 voices and even that is overkill.

They probably mean something else with '40' - maybe 40 different voices in the "wavetable"?

like the 1024 on my sb live? im pretty sure thats just for show.... that number can't possibly be useful in real life...

Posted by jb
Yeah it's just for show.

If they had stereo-headphones you could use your phone as a portable midiplayer. Wonder why they haven't done that.

Phones in Japan have 40 poly ringtones as standard, they all use a chip made by Yahama (Can't find the correct site right now). On the phone spec it will always "40 chord polyphonic, 32 +8 wavetable".
This sound chip allows for quite good reproduction of the human voice in a ringtone, or in a message alert tone.

Their is a phone company (Tu-Ka) that last year released a 64 poly handset, and it came with headphones to listen to the ringtones, which sounded very much like the original songs.

By the way, I have been reading the manual of the 6100 on the FCC website, it has the sounds of 40 different insatruments, but can only play 4 at the same time. The same as the 3510, 7210, 6610.

That would be a good idea. They should do that.
