Folks,
this a question ive asked a few times but never had a reply!
I'm told the esato stands for only take a sony ericsson, if thats true why is the site not called eato? after all sony ericsson werent together when esato started?
so is someone telling me porkies or did Laffen foresee the future?

Ive asked myself that question many times when visiting here. I always thought the name come from Sweden or something.
Posted by goldenface
When did ESATO start then Reg? The official date that SE started business was 1st October 2001, but it was known about before then.
Posted by fatreg
well i remember coming here when i just got my T68m
and it appeared to be going a long time before then!
fatreg
Posted by govigov
there was a debate on whether it is actually
"only take a sony ericsson"
or
"only trust a sony ericsson"
Posted by goldenface
Has anything been officially confirmed?
Posted by fatreg
either way its still sony ericsson and they werent around!
i want the real answer from Laffen if needs be!
so c'mon peterkay tell me the real reason why its called esato!
fatreg
Posted by EastCoastStar
but what @fatreg is getting at is... this site was around before the mergeing of Sony and Ericsson... so why is it... "only trust a SONY ericsson" (or take, or whichever).
ive wondered that @fatreg. i see this thread getting locked with a link to another thread though

Posted by Jim
Laffen decided that name as it's easy to remember, short and everyone can pronounce it but it had no meanings at the start (not even intended too).
Years ago, some members tried to find something coherant behind it and from all the ideas this came out: esato = Only Take A Sony Ericsson (take the first letter of each word and read it backwards), Laffen approved the idea.
So (un-?)officialy esato = only take a sony ericsson

P.S: Sorry I can't find that particular thread where we discussed about the name.

Posted by Jim
Not really, it's one of the many thread's about the name of esato, I'm more looking for the first and original one

Posted by fatreg
@ Jim
yes i see that, but at the time sony and ericsson were 2 different companies.
and your trying to tell me that it us just by coincidence that sony and ericsson become one ??
if so! pull the other leg!!
if not, gimme the real reason why its called easto! Sure its not only take a siemens ericsson? after all siemens starts with an s!
fatreg
*thinks someone is trying to pull the wool over my eyes!*

Ok ... so ... read again what I wrote, it has all the answers and in case you are still wondering: the name stands for nothing, it's after sony and ericsson became sonyericsson that we had that discussion and that a member came up with "only take blablabla" and was approved by Laffen later.

i hear that Tranquil, yet choose not to beleive it!
there is a very very very small chance that 5 random letters were plucked from thin air strung together in a unintelligalbe word,
after all im sure there are loads and loads or urls that are available that make more sense than 5 random letters, i just find it impossibly difficult to see that someone can make a site about mobile phones, picks 5 letters from the gregorian alphabet, A, E, O, S and T. strings them together in a word, polls the website on the intarweb, these random 5 letters later get confirmed to mean "only take a

i think its a remarkable conincidence, and if true this site needs to be written in history, as this is possibly the biggest conincidence in the world.

And a quote from Vlammetje:

You are apparently determined to find your own explanation anyway, so by all means.... But WHY is this so important to you? And why can you not accept anything that's been said before? |

Allright, the particular thread is in the archive folder which I can't access and I'm pretty sure that laffen explained everything in there (for the esato name).
Maybe a mod can dig up the info so it can be made as a sticky ...
Posted by PeterKay
Still here Fatreg, and yes i'm not convinced too.
Posted by tranquil
I don't see the need to start digging for a sticky, really.
The answer ti the question is allready in a sticy post here.
As of picking random letters out of thin air I'll reverse the question; I wonder what the first mother in history who called her son Peter was thinking? "R E T E P, I like the letters but Retep sounds wired. I'll reverse them I think... Hmmm... Peter? Yes! like it! Peter it is."
I'll lock this topic, like we've done with the rest on the same subject, since all we do now is splitting hear, in my oppinion.
