I had an idea the other day and i recon it would make a great addition to esato. I think it would be nice to have a page setup that displays a calendar of the whole year. On this calendar can be put the estimated release dates for new phones (i know it would only be a rough guide but still usefull), the dates new phones were announced (and links to the press releases & further info & pics), dates phones ceased production etc.... I think this would make a really interesting page to have on Esato giving you a rough idea of what is due to happen in the months ahead.
What you guys think?

Good idea, but a couple of problems comes to mind; who would be allowed to add entries, and who would be able to double check that entries are for real? I'm afraid a lot of entries will be release dates added out of made up rumours and members who think they heard something, somewhere, and believe adding an entry makes them important. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea but only if entries can be documented or the entries are based on facts like actual observations of a new phone being seen in a shop.

i would say only mods and maybe axxxr get given the power to add info to the calendar. Memebers can then pm the mods or axxxr if they think they know something that is not already on the calendar. Allowing axxxr to add info to it would mean he could integrate any mobile related news stories he posts on the forum.

Why not using google calendar ? Specific calendar's can be made public so everybody can see them but I'm not surre if only the owner can add/edit the entry's.

The Esato Event Calendar is out. Nothing there yet. Let me know if you have any anything you want to add. Currently, only I am adding new events. I will add a couple of calendar administrators later when the system is tested more thoroughly.

i dont think its a must with that bday thing. its a nice idea, saw that on other forums aswell ( even with list of the members having bday every single day ), but imo on some way it wouldnt fir easto.

I think we only should list things related to mobile phones. Excluding Esato member birthdays. What I had in mind was a list of dates when products was announced (W810 on January 4) and the date when the product was promissed to be available in stores. I will update the calendar with the latest Sony Ericsson press releases. Just to show how I would like it

and a kind of sE history would be nice ( date of relesing the fones, starting with t68i etc ) next to each fone there could be direct links to the fone releted rumours, discussions, reviews etc
a kind of sE library. imo many members would be happy to help at creating that, not even sE web has got such a database.
ps: an /// library would be also more then welcome imo.

what countries will the release dates be for and will they be sim free or network release dates? For example phones come out earlier in some countries so what country will the calender show or will it be a seperate entry for each?

that detail would/should be mentioned or just with a simple flag. or maybe just the continent. but imo thats not that important, a thread according a new relesing fone should be linked there. too many informations could lead to confusions, only the most important dadats should be displayed in the calendar imo.
