I own a nokia 3220 and the free memory is reducing day by day... It
shows up the used up space in gallery as 2.2mb whereas i have added up all
the free space and it sums up to 900kb.
Earlier the used space for gallery was shown correctly... But this
problem occured recently....
Is it happening with ny1 of you outta there...
Any ideas, suggestions post it here...

Turn your fone of then on again
Posted by shivam007
Hey this was the first thing i did... Turned it off and then on... But the problem still persists.....
Posted by AlanDS
It is common in s60 phones. Becuase if you receive mms, sms, pic messages then the space will be reduced drastically.
Posted by shivam007
But i have deleted all my mms's, videos.... The problem still persists... I contacted nokia about this and they said to have a firmware upgrade... And i have heard that firmware upgrades result in the loss of memory and moreover cause other problems..

Are you sure you didn't back up your memory
Posted by mrianwatson
You have a memory leak, check your pockets i'm sure it'll be there somewhere.

hey what does that suppose to mean "check ur pockets"

isn't the 3220 s40??
Posted by niranjan007
thats right the 3220 is a s40.
Posted by shivam007
Yeah even i know that 3220 is series 40, but what about the memory problem..
Posted by shivam007
shud i go for a firmware upgrade or not!! i think it will further result in the loss of memory!
Posted by Scorchio
The term "memory leak" is used in the computer industry to describe the problem you have. This was quite common with the T610 and a firm ware update fixed this.
Doing the same with your 3220 should fix this issue as long as it has been addressed in newer software updates by Nokia.
Contact your nearest Nokia service centre and check that this is the case.

But i have read that if you go for a firmware upgrade then it further takes up the memory and moreover makes the phone becomes slow...
Posted by mrao
Go ahead and get the firmware update
Posted by shivam007
i read tat gettin the firmaware upgrade results in a loss of memory!!
moreover u can't go back to the previous version if nything goes wrong!!
hey has ny1 of u has ever had a firmware upgrade!
Posted by shivam007
Pl right about the firmware upgrade...
Posted by mrao
Dude, looks like youve been talkin to people who have no idea of what a fw update is. Anyway, it does not result in memory leaks, on the contrary, an update is usually released to fix such bugs in the previous fw version

hey shivam..
thats shokking news...i too hav the same model 3220..
it seems i too hav lost almost 400 kb space...
shit...it means we endup with 0 kb sooner or later!!!!
@mrao

@Skygazer check you software version... The latest 5.50... Mine is 5.10....

Its not unusual to have phone memory depleting.. Even he you install all new apps to the memory card..0reason being there are some small system files which get written to the main memory during installation. Use a memory handling app which can compress least used apps and have enough free memory. As for the firmware update, if your phone is still under warranty a nokia care shop should be able to do it for free. If not i guess they charge around 500 bucks. At least thats what the se centres used to charge.
Posted by shivam007
@mrao i use a s40 phone and so there isn't any need to install apps (as in s60)
and moreover my phone is in the warranty period and can u tell me that how long will it take and do i had to submit my phone for a couple of days!!
Posted by mrao
Shouldnt take more than a couple of hours. If the centre guys tell you otherwise, tell em to keep the blokia and buy yourself an se phone
Posted by skygazer
@mrao
so u mean if i delete/remove all the installed stuff like games and apps..i shud get back the memory??? but 3220 has separate partitions for games and other stuff..isnt it??
@shivam
how to chk the s/w version?? how wil it help???

Posted by skygazer

what difference does it make if u hav v 5.5??
Posted by shivam007
then i suppose that its a common prob with v5.1 so r u goin for the firmware upgrade!!
Posted by 10ten
This should teach you a valuable lesson ..dont buy blokia
Posted by shivam007
Its nokia not blokia... And pal i have a se too and i think the nokia is far superior than se...

forum then Posted by dotsis
Now I've seen it all.A k750 owner slating nokia..Lol
Posted by shivam007
Hey now i got only 200kb as free memory... Whereas i got rid of almost everything in my gallery... The used memory is shown as 2.3mb
Posted by shivam007
Now only 100kb
Posted by mrao
Better get the firmware update done before it reaches zero
Posted by skygazer
shivam..
i too feel hesitation abt getting a fw update..
isit really gonna eat up memory space??
no one seems to be knoing here...
Posted by shivam007
@skygazer even i agree with you!
so does any1 of has ever had a firmaware upgrade
plz write bout ur experience!!
Posted by mrao
Dude, the firmware update is a ROM update. It will not eat into the usable memory allocation on the phone.
Posted by shivam007
@mrao can i expect some new features if i go for a firmware upgrade or only the problems will be dissolved!!
did u ever had a firmware update!
Posted by mrao
There may not be any new features.. Unless nokia specifically intends that. But there would usually be improvements over the previous version, bugs addressed et al . Dont worry, i have had firmware updates quite often and have never had a bad experience so far
Posted by skygazer
@mrao
im thinking of having one this vacation...
but is there any new version than RH-37? i searched on the net but got only one more name thats RH-39 for 3220b..
@shivam

Posted by shivam007
