The question is... prizes. Where would they come from?
I guess we could have categories too such as
1. best overall camera phone picture
2. best Sony Ericsson camera phone picture
3. best ? etc etc
we did a theme creating contest a year or two back. We gave members a certain amount of time to post their themes and then we got members to PM their votes. it worked quite well...
for nostalgia, here are those threads!

Well, if this happens, the contest would depend on each mobile:

k700 picture contest
etc.
You know what i mean. No prizes. People will vote for every picture they think is the best.

i think it would be great and masseur is right on with the suggestions imo.... you could have best night shot? best indoors shot... best moving object shot etc.....
as for prizes..... ummm.... why not let soemone get the oppertunity to either join the esato team (even if for only a month) or have some sort of input into its design or threads...... not really sure how taht would work, but that way the prize is 'free' and the winner gets something out of it.....

How about:
- Best
2.0mp photo.
- Best 1.3 mp photo.
- Best photo below 1.3mp.
- Best non 2.0mp photo.
- Best non 1.3mp.
- Best non below 1.3mp.
- Best photo taken with special effects.
- Best photo taken on public transport.
- Best photo taken while in a pub/wine bar.
- Best photo taken of a pet.
Of course the above list is open to suggestions
Whan shall the closing date be?
How are the snaps to be judged?
Any ideas anyone?

How about letting all members vote in the same way they did in our theme contest?
it was a private vote by PM to the moderators who collated and announced the results after the deadline
agreed that some members may not be technical in their knowledge of photography etc but at the end of the day its the people in general that will be the ones appreciating the photographs

I quite like the idea of a picture competition as well.
Masseur an I have run a few competitions over the last couple of years, and out of experience we need to limit the categories a bit.
1. Best
VGA picture
2. Best
Mpx picture
As simple as that for several reasons: You need to know the limitations of your camera, you need to pick your target with a bit of thought, you have to concider lighting and you'll have to be picky yourself as of to what pic you send in. AND: only one pic pr member.
As for prizes...
I think a custom made avatar would do the trick
(I have not discussed tht with Laffen so take that with a pinch of salt)
