i need a car!

I've got a 1.2 Corsa 16v, older shape. It's not for sale I'm afraid, but they're fairly quick, and if you get a top end model or special edition, you can pick one up with air con (like mine) that should be in your price range!
Posted by brownlad007
other then autotrader, where should i look ?
Posted by WelshTom
go to parkers price guide website and check out the guide prices for all the cars you would even consider. Then get a copy of your local free-ads (or what ever your local one is called e.g. loot etc) there will be loads for sale here and all will be local. Also have a look in auto trader like you said thou i find there isnt that many cars in autotrader.
If you feel confident enough and know a bit about cars your best bet is to find your local car auction and head down there. Also there are bargains to be had on ebay - just be careful.

ebay isnt that bad for cars if you find someone local and agree to meet up

yea ive been looking on ebay for a while aswell now also
Posted by Syrus_20
The places I look for cars are:
Autotrader Web & Book
eBay - Quite good but try and get a viewing before u bid
Parkers guide online
Newspaper
& The dealerships themselves
Dealerships are quite helpful as they always have cars coming in and out, they can cut you a good deal sometimes, especially if they havn't met their monthly quota. Like this month you may pick up a few good deals cause the '06 plate is out and they need to fulfill orders asap really
Good luck mate

cheers lad, ima buy the autotrader tom and check out some auctions on the weekend

i have a car for sale...... its a renault 19 1.4 RT 'M reg'..... not a bad car really, it failed a MOT test last Sept..... i got quoted approx £400 to get it all back up to scratch..... but if you were willing to do the work yourself i reckon you could do it for about half that price..... ive had a fair biu of work done on this not to mention a new clutch about a month before the MOT failure.....
Im willing to take
£100 as a min..... i live in cardiff, anyone interested just PM me, further details will be made avalible along with pics if requested....
Just a note, i wouldnt of advertised it on here like this, but i saw a couple of people looking and if someone wants a cheap car, this could be a good deal? but it does need work on it to make it 'roadworthy'

Just be careful you don't get one that's been abused by boy racers. There's a lot of thrashed examples out there!
And watch the insurance if you're under 21, it'll be a killer!
I had a 2.0 16v Cavalier GLS (not even the SRi version) when I was 20, insurance was over £1,050!
Posted by solidsingh
ive got a 1.8 cavalier and insurance is 3.5k which is ten times the value of the car

@ P900 LOVER
Dont be put off by a slightly higher price on some cars, most people/dealers will aim the price slightly higher than they realistically expect to get so haggle with them.
206's for 1500 are rare, cheapest are aroung 2k, you could always try and haggle the dealer to get down to £1500 though.
1995 VOLKSWAGEN POLO 1.0 L,

thanks a lot SCORPIONKING1982, btw where did u find them?
so what would everybody pick out of them?
i think i would go 4 the punto
Posted by methylated_spirit
I would take the Fiesta, build quality is better, its an all round better car than the Punto.
Posted by JK
Why do they make 1.0l cars in the UK??? Can they even move??
Posted by SCORPIONKING1982
@p900 lover - I found them all on autotrader.co.uk mate.
Personally I'd go for the fiesta, cheap to insure, service and parts will be cheap too and the zetec engine is great. The punto interior is just nasty and cheap.
Posted by methylated_spirit
@786KBR: The price of fuel, tax, insurance, and the rip-off price of new cars is crippling compared to a lot of other countries - hence the need for little rubber-band engined cars. Its an expensive place to drive, you have to pay £5 just to drive in London - and thats £5 every time - for Gods sake! There are stretches of motorway that you have to pay by the mile to drive on, and there is talk of introducing an extra car tax if you are not carrying passengers. Ridiculous.
Posted by leeboy13
...Also 1.0 litre cars come in handy for the elderly when they crash (they dont cause so much mash then)

lol!! makes sense i guess, but our car prices are 20% + higher than you guys and yet we buying/selling cars like mad people!!! Breaking car sales records every year!!
I think there are more 3 series BMs, c class mercs and Audi A4s on our roads than anywhere in the world, and yet they cost average 30 000 pounds!!
The lowest engine capacities we have here are 1400s (and maybe the rare dihatsu)
Posted by frank2345babies
Dont get a punto.they are cheap and nasty and depreciate quikly.
Posted by kk.226
@ Meths... pretty sure Congestion Charge is now about £8
Posted by p900 lover
yup it is now £8, but if u know ur way around london u can just go around it and park up, like my aunty drives 2 work every day and parks in a church carpark 10 mins walk from her business which costs her £15 per day put that way she dont pay the £8 conjestion charge
Posted by Syrus_20
Would reccomend NOT getting a 206...personally think they drive like shit - learned in one of them...well that was abit harsh...they ok i spose but much better drives out there than the 206.
You mentioned the polo is abit 'girly'
Posted by Coxy
What about this? Awesome car, trust me, because this car was once my dads!

What happened to it?
Posted by brownlad007
i was wondering, would i be able to request a car from a garage?
what i mean is like ask them to get in a car along similar lines of what they currently have for sale.
i say this because there is 2 cars of similar price and what i need (fiat punto). they have the colours sky blue and silver but im only after black
any ideas? what is the likely hood they would be able to get it
Posted by WelshTom
if you go to a big dealers then they can often find you a second hand car to your spec as they search the stock they have in alll their garages accross the country. if you go to an independant small garage then all they can do is offer to keep an eye out for one for you.
Posted by brownlad007
hm k
im after the new model fiat punto in black 1.2 ltr for under £1900 if anyone can help
Posted by SCORPIONKING1982
Look at fiats own dealer stock here http://pilot.fiat-approved-cars.co.uk/Acl-vfc/vfc/fiat/index.aspx you can search all the garages for the car you want. Otherwise check out these on autotrader http://atsearch.autotrader.co[....]sort=5&ukcarsearch_full=SEARCH
