does anybody know why i am getting a big black screen on the image editor and it is in the way of all the commands?

Sounds like the problem I had.
I checked the SonyEricsson website and discovered that they only support 1024x768 resolution screens or higher for the image editor software.
The software still seems to function at lower resolutions but just looks weird.
If you want to see the software with menus unobscured you need to change Display properties in Control Panel. But make sure your monitor supports the higher resolution 1st.
