Sony Ericsson released the low-mid end clamshell models Z530 and the W300 (TFT screen and less internal memory) today. No official press release yet, that I can find.

Z530/W300
Sony Ericsson’s Z530 clamshell is ideal for snap-shot pictures

London, 28th Feb 2006 – The Z530 clamshell camera phone announced today from Sony Ericsson is an affordable, quality finished design with classic appeal. It is an ideal tool to capture, view and share images. The phone has an expandable memory to 1 GB and Bluetooth. Colour options are Chromic Grey, Soft Black and Elegant Red and Style-Up covers are also available.

Taking snapshots while out and about and sharing them instantly with friends and family is a breeze with the Z530. The stills and video camera has 4x digital zoom and shots can be quickly forwarded by MMS. Stored pictures are easy to find with the multi-way thumbnail photo album, as timeline search allows shots to be found according to the date they were taken. Two high quality displays - the Ultra Bright Color 65k display and monochrome 1” sub display on the outer shell – deliver a crisp, clear viewing experience.

Unique for a phone at this price point, the Z530 has a memory expandable to 1 GB by purchasing a Memory Stick Micro (M2), an ultra-small removable media device normally found in highly specified handsets. Connectivity applications such as Bluetooth, USB 2.0 support, standard push-email and full HTML Internet browser also help make the handset the ideal business companion.

The Sony Ericsson Z530 is a Triple Band GPRS clamshell commercially available in grey, red and black and starts shipping during Q2 2006.

Comes with 256mb duo in the package, not bad! and 20mb internal memory....

Posted by shaliron
Pity the screens of such poor quality. Really 128*160 should be left to die in low end phones.

Yes, and those overlapping circular keys don't say a whole lot for it either!

I will definatelly buy W300 for my wife... as she loved Z200 before big fall and total destruction...

This is for thoose people who like Samsungs and other that tipe phones... Thanks (SE)!

Posted by S4k1s
W300 would have been nice if it had at least 1,3mp and better screen.

It does look really nice in black and the orange monocrome screen is really nice ... but the camera is the big downside. Either put in a 1.3mp or skip the camera...

for a midrange phone its not that bad i think.

Damn i have my Z520i for all off 5 minute's and they upgrade it

Typical!

I dont think there is need for a Z530...what will u do with a Memory Stick slot with out a Megapixel cam...and it makes mockery of Z520...personally i feel w300 is enough and they should scrap out Z530

For a midrange phone anno 2006, VGA camera is bad bad bad.
The rest of the phone is pretty good.

Are SE confused as to what connector it has? In the press release it says the W300i and Z530i has Fastport connector but here: http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]4_1_1&zone=pp&lm=pp4&pid=10012
says the Z530i and W300i work with thre HPR-20 which uses the olld connector. The HPR-20 is listed on the Z530i page.

Posted by haynesycop
Yeah i noticed that aswell, also some accessories that use the fast port only list certain models and miss out others which do use the fastport. For example i was going to get a flash to connect onto my Z520i but the phone is not listed as compatible.

Posted by EastCoastStar
hate the keypad... was hoping it would change from the prototypes, but it didnt. also, i dont like the camera, it reminds me of a few motorola phones. but other than that, its good. features are good!

Posted by Gigs
Love it! Through and through.

I'm not an active camera user so I couldn't give a stuff about a VGA cam. Looks better than the proto and i'm probably the only one not whining that that looked horrible either

I'd be pretty surprised if this wasn't using the fastport though, 's web people seem a little screwy on showing which products are compatible at times though

I agree!

very nice monochrome display...memory slot..and wow! Black stereo headphones!

Will keep my w550i. I don't want to go back to VGA. I'll just save up for a W810 or W900 But it's good that SE introduces this low midend Walkman phone.

Posted by shaliron
I guess if this phone had a 176*220 screen and a 1.3 mp camera it would outcalss the w550 which is totally not the point of this model

w300 looks good but as usual refuse to release a hi-end clamshell.
It would have been nice if they had released a clamshell that atleast was as good as w800 specs. But when they do it's old and can nolonger be called hi-end since its last years candybar specs.
I have to come in term with the fact never gonna release hi-end clamshell and try to get used to candybars again. :/

Hi-end clamshell of SE is bad idea because historically none of SE clamshell hit as best seller phones unlike its candybar.
Also, the price of clamshell usually higher than the candybar in same specification/features.
If SE release hi-end clamshell then the sales is not good the price will drop early and it's not good at all.
I know in my country the sales of Z520 and Z300 are not so good and their price were drop not so long after the released date.
But I have an optimistic in W300 sales because of its Walkman and external memory expansion capabilities.

imho haven't released 1 hi-end clamshell
the ones coming closes have been as i said based on lastyears candybar.
so how they know they won't sell is a mystery.
think of w900 internals in a slim clamshell as moto v3i, v3x or lg u880 and simular. That would be a sales hit im sure.
Alot of ppl like v3i's look but hate their UI and camera etc.
Anyway sorry. This is starting to not fit in this thread, w300 looks good also just a disapointment they didnt make a hi-end version.

Why Eldar at mobile-review said that W300 and Z530 has a 1.3 Megapixel camera?

Posted by coolfriend07
I myself PM him regarding this. But not corrected in the review.
It may be possible that those images taken by VGA interpolation like k700/k500. Or is it real 1.3 MP. Confusion....

I did make a topic here about that vey same thing. Seems as though the K510 took those pictures, not the W300/Z530, that is according to the photo data.

the specs for these phones were actually released while i was settling on getting the z520i.

i was hoping for an upgrade to 520, with improved memory, external memory and 1.3 mp camera but these phones did not quite make the bill. firstly i really do not fancy the new design- it has a chunkier look to the 520 (though may be different in reality) and i didn't like the colours (though the black w300 is nice). i do like the w300 but i also decided in the end i'd rather have a seperate dedicated mp3 player than having that capability in a phone (i take very long journeys so the battery for both phone and music just wouldn't work to well i think)....anyway ultimately i decided the upgrades were not enough and i went for the 520i anyway.

one thing i would be interested in knowing though...would themes, wallpapers etc released on these two new phones be compatable with the 520? as i'm not finding a huge wealth of choices for the 520 as i would have liked (though i've only had it a week and am yet to try making my own)

i'm a new owner to SE phones and new to the current tech of phones such as camera, mp3 tones, colour screens, pxt etc so i think the 520 is a worthy entry for me and i probably won't fancy upgrading for about 2 years so it'll be cool to see whats around then....

and i'm definantly a fan of the clamshell over the candybar so i hope a high end clamshell gets a release one day

The W300 is availible in Australia, which means that this is the first time that we've got a phone early (I think)! But it's a $39 or 15.5 pound per month. That's pretty expensive for the BUDGET phone.

Posted by aikelo
Coming soon is now removed from the swedish site for the W300i. The user manual is also avalible for download now.
