This SIM card will have 8000 times more memory than standard 64 kilobyte SIM cards.Orange will be the first mobile network operator to offer multimedia content services to subscribers via 512 megabyte SIM cards. The high density SIM will be rolled out across Orange European markets in 2006, commencing in France, where it will be initially available on an LG U8210 handset.

What use would it be? I dont like storing numbers on the sim as it can only store one number against a name.
Can it be used to hold MP3's or things like that?

If data like video/mp3 can be stored, then its a good idea.

Well, it will bring much more customisation by operator.

well that amount of memory will save some people with phones that have no expandable memory, like T610 or W550. and if you get W800 with this sim you have 1GB from the start !!

The expected has arrived. It should be costlier.

That's one heck of a way to boost the internal memory.
Not to mention you can now store around 5 million numbers on it

The simcard has a DUAL purpose as a memory card too . . .

Do not enjoy too early this great news. Indeed, it'd be awesome for phones with no internal memory but do you people reckon that it will be backwards supported by oldies? I really doubt. Can a T610 access the little amount of kbites on its sim card?
Posted by wapt
Maybe it is only capable for the coming handsets, such as the LG model mentioned.

i very much doubt it, most 3310s i saw couldnt handle 64k sims, so i see no way how a T610 is gonna take a 512mb SIM, USIMS atm are only 128k.

Any sims out there that can hold 500 contacts? My t-mobile only holds 230.
Posted by PeterKay
my orange sim only holds 200
Posted by mcrosser
my sim holds 250. it's 32 KB.
@PIANOSSO the phone CAN acces the small sim memory, but it's purpose is only for contacts and sms. so that's why it doesn't count in the whole memory of the phone. this 512 MB sim will (perhaps) be accesed via the normal files menu and you can save data by an option saying something like ''save in sim'' and a folder could be created under tha name of ''sim files'', but this last thing is most probable on new models with such capacity.
