Smash Hits magazine is to close after 28 years and is blaming mobile phones. The magazine was the music and entertainment “must read” for generations of teens...The publisher says that "teens these days get their information online anyway, and spend a high proportion of their disposable income on running their mobile phone and content."

what a load of shit, i do both media, ict and business, and i very much dbout that is the reason why they can't sell their crummy little magazine, its true that teanagers get their info off the web, but they dont spend all their disposable incme on mobiles etc, teanagers generally have a high level of disposable income untill their 17, which is not their target audience. the reason they cant sell it is that its got a ad image, probally to sad/childish for them, and the target audience below 12 won't read it because they uses tv and are more unlikely to read a whole.
companies should deal with their faliure instead of using excuses so the employees dont get fired

this is a load of rubbish! i heard about this on the news a couple of days and nearly laughed that they could blame the fall of this magazine on phones

Not even the 'new look' could save it!

I think lukebonathon is spot on, well thought out reply laddie! Have a cream bun and a blue peter badge.
I suppose to an extent they have a (small) point, but it begs the question - Why didn't they try to cash in? Take a look at, for example, FHM magazine. They've embraced the media boom, spent fortunes on their website, launched a ringtone service, and they are bigger than ever! I think Smash Hits suffered from not being progressive enough.

absolutely. The net is just the newest form of media. Newspapers and journals didn't die when radio came out. Radio didn't die when TV came out.
