So we'll soon find DVD's capable of carrying a few gigs of data become mainstream

The Samsung SH-B022 features a 2x BD Disc writing speed. A 25GB BD disc took 43:40min. to burn. The review about this Samsung Blu-ray drive is pretty positive. The final version will also support double layer BD discs with 50GB capacity.

This will only be true if blue ray wins the format war, or both formats learn to coexist peacefully. Also blue say can supposedly go as far as 8 layers for 200GB.

200GB That is incredible! my entrie hard drive ain't much bigger!

You are rite Mustafa...

But I dare say they can "coexist".. very tough even for Sony to deploy their marketing muscle to make their standard win..

The talks (sort of?) failed.. AFAIK..

Lets see.... Blu Ray is better IMO but restrictive..

Blu -ray will be destroyed by HVD. HVD will be able to supoort 1.6 TB discs after a couple of years.

I think blu ray will win, especially when the PS3 comes out, all the games will be bluray. Which means that Sony will have already cemented customers for when the DVD's come out.

But 1.6 TB disks... If these come out then they will take over. 5hit how many films would that be?....

Me thinks the HVD tech.. DOES look promising...

But definately, not for clumsy types like me, who manage to get 'em scratched so much..

yup.. my first PC too had a voluptous hard disk & 4MB (or 8 maybe) RAM..
