hi, i'm trying to get some video clips/movies on my memory stick to play on my k750. but i'm having problems with some being very laggy/freezing, sound going off etc. basically i looking for the settings to convert a video for my phone, playing from the memory stick at the best possible quality i can get but still with a perfect playback so that no lag takes place and sound doesn't go. i found this on th web:

it plays absolutley great off the the memory stick, the only problem i have is that the quality is very very poor, and isn't too far off from being 3gp...

any help, thanx

The problems is is that the resolution is smaller than the screen size, although this cant be helped it causes a small quality loss because the video has to be stretched. IMO you should up the bit rate a little and drop the frames to about 12-15 fps.

what do you think for the bit rate?

Posted by Mad_Bob
Not 100% sure, best bet would be to mess around with different settings, I only used about 120 on my P910, but people have used alot more, its down to your own prefrence. Start at about 160 and see how it plays.

yea, thanks... with ur advice it worked perfectly, thanks a lot.

just a suggestion, you should try around 192kbps video, 96kbps audio sample rate 44100khz and in stereo, and framerate between 15-25 (whichever works best)

Posted by Xugaa
i'll try it...

Posted by Xugaa
i do it with 210 video bitrate, 25.00 frame rate.
i tried what you said with the audio but the sound just cuts out almost straight away...

I've been trying with 192kbps and 20 fps for video, and 96kbps and 44100 sample rate for audio. The result is very good. But one question, some videos are a bit lagging at start, but after that, it seems OK. How do I fix it?

quality and playbacksmoothness very much depends on the quality of the encoder used and how much you can alter the encodingsettings, and how well the encoder used can controll the bitrate you specify. You cannot generalize and say these or these settings are allways optimum as it depends on the encoder you use.

Generally speaking though you cannot have both a high bitrate and high number of fps and a low keyframeinterval.

If you want to encode in 25fps - you should never go above 150kbps and the keyframeinterval should be increased from 0 to atleast 100.

You should never encode above 200kbps, this is maximum, but 200kbps can be achieved with smooth playback if you lower the fps to 15, and increase the keyframeinterval from 0 to 50.

At the same time you should never go above a combined bitrate of 264kbps for both video and audio, with keyframeinterval 50 and 15fps playbackspeed. This means if you encode video at 200kbps then audio can only be 64kbps, if you want 96kbps audio you have to lower videobitrate to 168.

210kbps video with 96kbps audio and 25fps is a definate no go and will cut off audio during playback.

Firstly deside on a good encoder, suggestions are Nero Recode, Mpegable or Xvid/Vdub

so what settings do you tend to use numb? like for smooth playback, but best quality possible...

Posted by Xugaa
god this confusing... i am trying to find the settings that will give videos that may be short or long length that will have the best quality that i can get using my k750 but at the same time a very smooth playback with sound that does not jump or cut out etc...

what does anyone suggest.

i currently have a simpsons episode and these are its settings:

summery:
mp4
bitrate - 193

video:
frame rate - 25
size - 176x144

audio:
bitrate - 0
sample rate - 24000
channels - 2 (stereo)

now this plays with i think perfect play back, although the quality isn't amazing and can be a bit rubbish at times and the audio works though sometimes cuts up a little. quality is the main thing i want to sort out but what about sound too? how should i adjust the settings to sort this?

thanx.

I almost allways use Nero Recode and the settings in the guide I posted link to.
Gives optimum quality and allways fluent playback, I never have any problems at all. My highest recomendation to this sollution for mp4 creation.

Once in a while I use VirtualDub and Xvid, if I have some poor quality originals that need some filterering before encoding.

k thanks, i'll try it.

where to download nero encode????

Posted by RyaN
@choclate, Nero Recode comes in the package with Nero 7 - the latest version of Nero - you can download the trial version or buy the full version here http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/index.html

@choclate

don't worry,

http://www.softpedia.com/get/[....]-Other-Tools/Nero-Recode.shtml

its just nero recode on its own and does not cost... its the full version of nero recode 2 and i'm using it now, it works perfectly.

thx guyz

thanks numb, i'm currently using a combination of nero recode 2 with them instructions on that web you gave me, and also imtoo mpeg encoder, but thats justreally for sizing the videos after any black bars have been cropped, and it all works great... thanx again.

@numb

hiya! one question about trimming the video frame..(dimension), for me its very mathematical and i really hate doin math about computing the ration of width & height with respect to the size of 176x220...

cant we make this automatic? if we can, what is the pros & cons?

much thanks.. wil wait for reply...

cheers to a good life!

could i please get some advice because this is driving me nuts.
i have been trying nero recode with the exact settings as earlier in the thread,when the conversion is finished and i open it up in the mpegable player,the settings have all come out fine,bitrate,fps,size,all spot on.
when i try and play it in the phone it keeps skipping and lagging and the sounds goes on and off.if i change it to full screen the picture also looks terrible and very pixilated.the only way that i can get the film to play without lagging too badly is to have the bitrate under 100 and even then it isnt perfect and the picture quality is pretty poor.
i am using a w800i and assumed that the same settings would apply.
any advice much appreciated.
thanks.

try this and see if this helps:

http://www.spawnweb.dk/recode/cropping.htm

First find out the resolution of your sourcevideo by looking under properties, then enter the resolution in the yellow cells, then it calculates what the aspect ratio of your source is. Next crop out top and buttom if theres any black bars you need to crop out, and enter how many pixels you crop out in top and buttom and enter pixels in the next yellow cells. If you dont need to crop out anything then enter 0. After that it calculates, how much will need to be cropped out from the left and right side to have the same aspect ratio as the original movie.

PS: Nero recode will do automatic resizing and cropping and keep aspect ratio based on analysis during import of sourcevideo, you only need to change this if you want to optimise completely to fill the screen with no black bars by cropping out more of the video.

#jas328sport

Unfortunately K750/W800 will only play videos encoded in max 176x144, this is fine when played normally in mediaplayer, but when entering full screen the resolution of the screen is 220x176, and since the video is only 176x144 the phone will have to do a softwarescalling of the video to fit the larger resolution of full screen. This will make the video slightly pixelated when played full screen. Nothing can be done about this, only thing to minimise pixelation is to crop the video so that aspect ratio is 1.25 which corresponds with aspect ratio of the 220x176 resolution but it only helps a litle, there will still be some pixelation. Optimum would have been if we could encode in 220x176 and play those, but since this resolution is not part of the mobile 3gp standard this is not possible

W800 and K750 are identical, and videos encoded for K750 using the settings in the guide should also play on W800, you definately should not need to lower bitrate below 100. Are you using Nero Recode to encode ? and if so, are you positive that you started out by selecting the mobile profile which ensures 15fps encoding ?

informative replies, numb. Many thanks for your time.

Posted by jas328sport
thanks for the info on the screen size numb,yes i am using nero recode and it it definately running on the mobile setting and mpegable says it is at 15fps.
i have just done the latest w800i software upgrade,is there any chance that this could have caused problems with playback as i have just tried again with a combined bitrate of 258 and playback was rubbish.
i was getting much better quality using imtoo3gp but only on avi's,if i tried vob files the sound was always out of sync so would really like to get nero to work.

@Xugaa:
I've downloaded and installed Nero Recode CE from the link you've posted. But why everytime I'm gonna use the software, it always says that I have to buy it? Otherwise, I won't be able to use the software.

@silvertear

sorry i don't know the answer, i took it from that exact same place, actually twice now, cos i accidently deleted the file the first time, and both times its fine. i never get told anything about buying it, just the full version. try again mate, hopefully it'll work next time. sorry about that...
