I use a Belkin (F8T008uk) USB Bluetooth Dongle thats V1.1 and 1.2 compatible. But i never realised that the K750i supports V2.0 which can transfer at speeds of up to 3 times faster than previous versions (in some cases up to 10 times faster).

Just wondering if anyone has a V2.0 USB Bluetooth dongle and whether or not it actually speeds up bluetooth. I'm vry curious as to whether or not bluetooth is as slow as people say (and that maybe it's cuz their devices are v1.1 or v1.2).

Yes it does speed up.

Ive got the same dongle, and it doesnt work anymore since updating to SP2 for XP. Think yourself lucky, Belkins tech support is dire.

THere are a few that are out there just do a google search. however DLINK has already announced an update to their DBT-120 for BT v2.0+EDR; not the current ones.

I recently bought a PowerBook 17" and the transfer rate rocketed up, It's about 70KB/s now when sending anything to the phone. Not sure about the other way around...

So bluetooth isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be i guess...

I think i can live with a v1.2 dongle, i mostly use a card reader to transfer files, i hate the using the bluetooth interface and OBEX transfer system to send/receive files- it always seems abit dodgy.

@etaab I also have a Belkin dongle and it is temperamental at best.

Can anyone tell me how their phones go on Macs? Esp. concerning the backup of messages and contacts, etc.

How do you go about updating firmware from a Mac?

dlink makes a much more reliable dongle than belkin....

Thanks, max - I'll look into that one.

An addition to Bluetooth connectivity posting (and hopefully not too much off-topic) - I was wondering your thoughts on GRPS in Australia? Currently for me on Telstra it is dashingly expensive! With no capped option in reach. Do you foresee any change on the horizon with the new EDGE phones?

Do you think Telstra will ever follow suit with the rest of the globe?

@ jasond & Max; please wait for the newer v2.0 BT USB Dongle to arrive; I know Max as myself both have the DBT-120 which is very good; BUT you must install the Widcomm drivers to get the best - dont just suffice with WinXP SP2 drivers which WILL be installed initially (because of course their Windows Signed drivers).

Does anyone know how much faster the v2 is ? 70Kilobyte a second is about max I get with the standard version (1.1/1.2) Greetings from South Africa. Mario

I'm sure i read that with V2 USB Bluetooth dongles with EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) the speed is something like 2.1 Mbit/s (but i don't know if EDR's 2.1 Mbit/s is an additional speed to V2 and so it might be faster than that)... look here on answers.com half way down:

http://www.answers.com/Bluetooth

With the talk about EDGE, is that available in the UK? I'm sure it's been asked plenty of times before but ive never really been asked to read the answer . And also I really want an i-mode phone cuz they seem real fast and perfect at WAP browsing, but it's a shame that there are alot of SE phones in Japan with i-mode, but none here!!! U can only get Samsung and NEC phones on O2 with i-mode.

I have the BT2 dongle (the belkin one - got it as a free upgrade due to my original belkin dongle never having worked properly). I'll test it out and let you know speeds, but I think the limiting factor is the seriel emulation used - it may never get much faster than 70Kbps.

Cool on the new dongle; but thats bad on the low speed, maybe a software update later on could improve that? Unsure?

please let us know about the updates.
