the 8800 is just an addicts phone.
I know that I could get better.
I know I'll have to treat it like gold and be extra carefull.

But I still want it.

Posted by xdavex
Yeah, i get what you mean. I want one but i don't know why!

Posted by masseur
nah, I'm afraid if I don't keep it this time it will be going to one of my family with less demands than I

Posted by haynesycop
I hated this phone when it first came out but now i want one too! I have no idea whay though!

@ masseur - i know exactly what you mean, I have had 3 nokia 8800's for my own use and loved them, only because it looks and feels so damn nice, its like a metal peble in my hand, but then texting is a right bitch, along with dialing number that are not in your phone book. Then you have those bloddy little buttons at the top arrr does my head in.

The problem is I have this with all phones, the p910i is great, but to bulky
the nokia 6822 I am using is gret, but im bored of it now
the w800i is just booring,
the k750i is the same as the w800i (though it came before) and has loer build quality
the w900 is one chunky monky

and so on, I don't think I will ever have a phone im truley happy with...

I can honestly say that I am truly happy with the k-jam

the 8800, V3 etc etc are just secondary phones that I use but I still feel these mixed emotions.

perhaps I should just get 2 k-jams!

8800 Is great, Yesterday I had three, but sold the gold one now only have 2, one for everyday use, and one, well really to sell (was going to use it just for going out, but i've scratched my main one now so don't mind it getting damaged).

Great phones, I know what you mean about them though, didn't think i'd miss it when I got rid, but bought another a week later.

It feels great in your hand, love the slide, screen is crisp... sure the bottom 3 buttons make texting a job and a half, and battery is poor; but it looks so great i don't care anymore

(On the look out for a black housing!)

one thing I am now reminded of having synched the phone again is that I am impressed by is the Nokia PC suite

in terms of functionality and ease of usability it blows the SE suite out of the water IMHO

Posted by below24
Synced the phone to do what?

Posted by masseur
load up my contacts and calendar

I also installed opera mini via the pc suite as the phone complained the download was too big (not enough memory) although there is 40odd meg still free!

Posted by JiggyJaggy
Did you synch via BT?

yep, as they don't even supply a USB cable with this expensive phone!

it paired first time with my vaio (which has built in BT) and synched without issue

Yep just did a Bluetooth sync with my fresh dell.

the PC suite is very straight forward... i like it alot clean and simple.

Although i do not have outlook, where can i get that form do you know?

Posted by masseur
outlook comes free with windows mobile devices otherwise you have to buy it as part of office, I don't think its available separately any more

I also have no idea if the Nokia pc suite works with outlook express

Posted by below24
With outlook express it only will sync contacts, thats all.

I have the Qtek Discs, so its cool.

Cheers

right, bye bye 8800

before that though, and I didn't find a way last time either, is it really not possible to fully reset the phone?

it seems that you can only reset some settings and you must go through manually in each of contacts, calendar, notes, applications etc and delete each part separately

Finally took the plunge and bought a 8800 yesterday. £222.50 off ebay mint condition, bargain!

Cant wait for it to come tomorrow!!!

Posted by masseur
thats a great deal

I was gonna give mine to my brother but a colleague who is travelling soon was eager for it so I made £50 profit over what I paid

don't let me make this mistake again!

Posted by kk.226
I'll give it 2 weeks before you'll be wanting another

Posted by masseur
nah, I still keep coming back to my original V3 in preference to the 8800 for my "style phone"... there's just something about it!

Yeah rightey-oh You are just like a moth around a kerosene lamp, you get burned time after time and yet come back for more!

How do i know? I am just the same myself

Posted by masseur
@kk.226 and ThreeX

well, you might be right, I dunno

I think part of me getting rid of this one was the realisation to make a quick buck knowing I could get another for the same price I paid

we'll see

Posted by fatreg
stick with the V3 masseur, jsut think how cool your star tac still looks to this very day, an 8800 in a few years will just be wrong, and scratched to buggery!

im singing motos praises here as i love my V3i, soo dinky yet just magical.

V3 masseur!

Posted by masseur
and yet I was quite dissapointed by the V3i

Posted by fatreg
thats cuz its offers no real beenfit over the V3, i just like the blue light

simple things and simple people and all that....

What i want to know (i am planning to buy a V3i myself) is:
You were disappointed because it didn“t live up to your expectations *perhaps you assumed it would be a big step up from original V3*
Or were you disappointed because it was a bad phone?
Most people i know are disappointed in the W900 simply because they expected more (miracles i“d say) considering the massive Sakura hype and all.

Posted by masseur
yeah, perhaps I expected more. Video recording is fine but you can get that in the V3 these days so really all it had going for it was the higher res camera and the memory slot whereas I really didn't like the colour or the feel. The silver V3 feels so much better in the hand.

I guess this is more or less a repeat of my RAZR V3i first impressions

edit: btw, I also tried the V3i a second time too (I must be a fussy git!)

Yes you are..

I think i will be happy with it then as i find the gunmetal finish at least as appealing as the original silver one. What i appreciate, (i don“t give a flying *about camera and video) is the reportedly slightly better display(s) and better phonebook according to Eldar“s review.

Posted by masseur
right, I've decided to get another and this time I will keep it no matter what.

it seems when I don't have it, I miss it, so I guess that answers the question though for the life of me I don't know why!

I hate to say it but...

Posted by masseur
ok, ok, so I got my new 8800 today and its now firmly placed into my "keep" collection along with my V3, V3688, Startac 130/X, 8210, 8250 T68i and T68, P800, etc etc

I finally got a 8800 after being scammed on Ebay. Decided just to get it on the Flext 35 tariff, paid £150 for it cos i haggled.

Nearly lost it last night after having it for 1 day. left it on a sofa in a club, luckily i found it again. I need insurance i think.

Posted by masseur
good one.

I'm not sure what the flext 35 deal includes but the best contract price combined with best initial handset price I have seen is at dial a phone whom I have used once before for my sons K750. They give the cashback within a week of claiming and so are very good IMHO!

its a 12 month contract, £35/month with handset at £149.99 but quidco give £40 back

the fantastic o2 online deal is discontinued they told me last week. it was £219 for the handset and 12 months @ £19 with £35 back through quidco

now I've got my head around things I'm quite happy with the 8800

Ah those deals are really good, much better than what i got in the end. Oh well never mind, been listenin to the Liverpool match on my 8800 whilst doin my revision for uni.

im really happy with it, its just so cool! hate the way finger marks show up tho everytime you touch it.

Posted by masseur
thats an unfortunate problem with all such housings. its also the same with my V3 keypad which seems to tarnish very quickly too

Posted by alexho
@masseur, many thanks for the quidco link. Just bought a 3250 from OSPS and earn £20 cash back! Great way to sign a new contract.

Posted by masseur
fantastic!

I thought from my previous rantings about quidco that everyone would know about them now

In the few months I have been using quidco I have received around £200 back!

I got myself another 8800.... but in BLACK................ and I love it..........
Much prefer the BLACK over the SILVER and the camera / video recording quality seems better on it to.

Its strange as I sold my SILVER one about 3 months back and said I would never get one of these phones again..............

And here I am again.................

Lets see how long this lasts...........
Cheers
ENJOY

Sounds good then, looks really nice. Does it fingerprint easy etc? I hated my silver one cos of that.

Posted by SE-Naz
Its much better then the SILVER when it comes to fingerprints as you can really seem them on the black that easily... You have to look closely then you may see the fingerprints..... but nowhere near as bad as the SILVER one.

Cheers
ENJOY

SE-Naz,

can you do me a favour? when you open the back cover, is that totally black color or inside is a silver casing ? I mean as the back casiing is in black color while the opposite side is in black or silver color??

Last time I purchased the back casing in ebay and it's silver on the inside part..

Posted by SE-Naz
@babysmile
