does that seem to expensive, or a waste?

vaios are meant to be very good and high spec like the auction says i have no idea when it comes to fixing electronics, maybe ask cycovision, seems like a good price and if you can fix it then you could make a decent profit i suppose.

o nah the fault i think just needs the hd wipped and then a fresh install, but i mean to keep, or sell depending hoe much my urge for a mac book gets
Posted by haynesycop
Oh! I would sell it, i mean come on a macbook or a vaio. I know which one i would choose
Posted by Luke-the-magic-man
lol yeh, but i still need some of the wiindows functions, thats why I still have my pc lol
Posted by Cycovision
Personally I'd keep it, I think you would get a bit more for it than you paid but not a huge amount. It's a good laptop but it's not great by todays standards.
Still a bargain at that price though
Posted by Luke-the-magic-man
hmmm, if you say so cyco, your the computer genious here lol, I was thinking about keeping it and getting rid of my pc, but im no sure as I didnt really want to pay almost 500 just for a laptop I will use less then once a week...

@copper, who said that? (referring to your first post)
Vaio's are generally crap, you wouldn't find someone in Japan with a Vaio (well you could, but it would be like finding someone in the UK with a Hitachi laptop)
Sony are known for taking other companies stuff and cramming them into a nice design. I would trust a vaio when it comes to longevity.
A Mac? A Toshiba? A Sharp? Yes, but a Vaio, no.
@original poster
However overall, I think you did get a good deal. (if he's telling the truth)
Might be that the graphics card needs to be inserted properly, or a good old update.

@amnesia
Just general people i have spoken to who own them are perfectly happy with them, however it is all down to personal taste.
I do not like pc's at all i would never go back, just depends on what you like.
One thing i like about sony are there designs.
Everything electrical i own is sony apart from my laptop!
Posted by amnesia
but somebody who bought a vaio would obviously say it's great since they own it.
And Sony fans are just like Apple fans, they'll defend them adamantly.
A Japanese person will tell you that Sony do MP3 players and some cams the best.
It just comes down to reliability and service, and sadly they're nice until you've bought the item.
you should read the amazing amount of horror stories that people have had.

Hmm, i have a sony viao desktop and im very happy with it, even tho its 2 years old its still very high specs for todays PCs

I'm on my 5th Vaio laptop in a row. This one is the S3XP and though there has been the S4 and now S5 Sony haven't changed the specs much except a tiny cpu increase and, I think, dual layer DVD writer instead of single layer.
my two kids are both on their second vaio laptops (lower end spec of course) and my wife has a vaio desktop
out of all these I have only ever had two problems, both with the same unit. One was a faulty mousepad and the other was the lcd screen which started developing black marks. Sony picked up the laptop, took in to Europe somewhere (france or belgium I think), replaced both faulty parts and I had the pc back on the 3rd day. excellent service IMHO!
personally, I wouldn't have anything else

yeah but that supports exactly what I'm saying, vaio supports are more likely to say that vaio is number 1.
I personally support Toshiba, they've always taken care of me. (for example when my laptop had a problem, they said it would take 2 weeks for a brand new one, i said I didn't have time, so they sent me their best model absolutely free)
Still using it today.
It might just be me, but when a company makes most of their own stuff I feel more confident. (opposed to one that takes others and slams them in one)

I guess I only say vaios are number 1 because of the great experience I have had.
I was always put off Toshibas even though people raved about them, because in the early days of laptops they were among the most expensive you could buy. probably because they were highly regarded by corporate users who had the money to spend on them
not that I have looked, but I honestly haven't seen much of Toshiba lately.
didn't they also have that strange joystick-for-a-mouse instead of a proper mousepad in those early days? I could never get on with those
Posted by p900 lover
@masseur where do you get your laptops from?
if i buy a vaio from anywhere will i get the same support if things go wrong?

I use a custom P20 at the moment. 1.5gb ram 3.1 Ghz P4 HT (dual), 80 GB drive, dvd combo drive, 17 inch screen and an nVidia card. Over all, it's still as quick as ever.
I'm REALLY interested in the latest Qosmio, however I wish it was white AND the problem is because the palm rest is glossy, I'd imagine cleaning it would drive me NUTS

wow thanks for all the interest, I missed alot of this as I hadent checked the post for a day or so.
So far I havent had many laptops, a 1 dell, a tiny sharp, my apple, and a other faulty vaio laptop.
When I bought my first faulty vaio I was very pleased at the design, but i didnt like the way they made the internals (inbuilt ram faild and as a result I have to find a brand new motherboard - still looking if anyone knows where to find them), my dad had one along time ago, and kept it for a good 5 years or more, and sold it for 400 odd, and it was a pretty old model but never had a fault.
I myself am a bit of a sony collector, and its one of the brands I definetly look for when buying things such as hi-fis and laptops
