hey sony ericsson sent me the spanish press release and a photo but the press releases and photos haven't been published in sony ericsson's websites. i've looked in the uk, us, spanish and global sites without luck.

from http://www.clubsonyericsson.c[....]ny-ericsson-unveils-the-w810i/

"Was I the only one who hated the design of the W800, had to buy a K750 and convert it to W800, and still didnft love the design? Sony Ericsson today unveiled at CES Las Vegas an aesthetic blend of those two, with essentially the same features and the addition of Quadband and EDGE support, dedicated music buttons in the joystick a la W900. The rest of it, you know: 2 megapixel camera with autofocus and flashlight, 1.9 176x220 pixel 262k color screen, Memory Stick Duo Pro slot, etc., etc., etc., and 20mb of internal memory. Yes, more than half less than the W800, but it comes with a 512mb card so why even bother, no? Actually, something bothers mec apparently they took out the Radio FM! At least the Press Release (I just have it in Spanish) doesnft mention it. Anyway, itfs called the W810i and will be available worldwide in the first quarter of this happy new year."

Sony Ericsson Launches Stylish W810 WalkmanŽ Phone - New Quad-band Edge Walkman Phone Delivers High-Quality Music experience with Two Mega-pixel AutoFocus Camera and Removable Memory
04 January 2006

LAS VEGAS, CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW (January 4, 2006) – Sony Ericsson today announced the latest addition to its line-up of Walkman-branded mobile music phones to further enhance the consumer’s mobile music experience, the sophisticated, Satin Black W810. The Sony Ericsson W810 is a Quad-band EDGE phone (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), and enables users to transfer their legacy CD collection or access operator music download services, while staying connected to friends, family and business colleagues anywhere in the world.

The Sony Ericsson W810 offers the latest in mobile multi-media functionality by taking advantage of high speed data downloads; listen to hours of music, capture and send high-resolution mega pixel images, access the Internet and stay connected through instant messaging or email. The latest Walkman phone comes with a 512MB removable Memory Stick, which can be upgraded to 2GB currently available in retail outlets, allowing consumers to store a wealth of music tracks, photos, video and other multimedia files on the phone.

Extending the highly acclaimed Sony Ericsson Walkman phone line-up, the stylish black with orange trim W810 advances the mobile music experience by seamlessly blending together entertainment and advanced mobile phone technology to offer a truly credible digital music experience supporting industry standard MP3 and AAC music file formats. The phone comes complete with quality HPM-70 stereo headphones which feature a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack for personal customization.

Consumers can easily and quickly load music to the phone; either uploading their legacy CD collection onto the W810 from a PC via USB 2.0 using the provided Disc2Phone music management software, or by purchasing new music from operator specific over-the-air download services. This enclosed PC software makes it easy to sort, browse and transfer files on the 512 MB Memory Stick PRO Duo™, which provides capacity for approximately 150 music tracks – the equivalent of around 15 full length CDs.

Enjoying music on the Sony Ericsson W810 Walkman phone is extremely simple because a dedicated Walkman button quickly pulls up the music menu regardless of what other application on the phone is in use. Positioned just below the phone’s screen you can find all the most common music controls needed (Play/Pause/Stop/Skip Track/Volume) allowing users to move easily between tracks or adjust the volume on the speaker or headphones. Engaging Mega Bass™ improves the sound experience when listening to music through the external speaker or the high quality headphones provided.

“Since the launch of the W800 flagship Walkman phone in August last year, consumers across the world have been embracing the concept of the mobile phone as a credible digital music player, and enjoying high quality music anywhere, anytime without having to carry a dedicated music device. Sony Ericsson’s Walkman phones are redefining how consumers listen and enjoy music, and the W810 strengthens our music phone line-up with the addition of dedicated music buttons on the front of the phone and an expanded choice of how users upload music to the phone” said Miles Flint, president for Sony Ericsson.

The Sony Ericsson W810 is also a great imaging device enabling users to capture great still pictures and video featuring an integrated high-quality 2 mega pixel, auto-focus camera with photo light, and easily recognisable digital still camera interface.

As with other members of the Walkman phone family, music automatically pauses when an incoming call is received and begins playing again when the call ends. The phone can also operate in a music-only mode for those occasions when the phone function must be disengaged, such as during air travel.

The W810 is equipped with EDGE Class 10 technology, to allow quick and easy data transfers and Internet access, and Bluetooth™ Wireless technology for connectivity with Bluetooth handsfree headsets and sharing data with other Bluetooth-enabled devices.

The Sony Ericsson W810 is a Quad-band EDGE phone available in Satin Black and starts shipping globally Q1 2006

W810i - Quad Band EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz for Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and Americas

it has a nice look to it but i think theres something wrong with it at the top, when looking at it now i think it looks rather plastic and cheap

Posted by RyaN
If this turns out to be true (which im not too sure) WTF has improved dramatically from the K750/W800??!! In terms of features and looks. Not a lot. Jumping on the nokia bandwagon for mass domination??

Posted by Vein
Quadband should mean it could be sold in a few other countries.

Posted by DragonEye
you know how long us north americans have been waiting for a phone from SE to support 850 and actually be good..

i'm soooo happy

Posted by RyaN
But could have just brought out a W800 quadband version instead of this. I suppose they have remarketed phones before with tiny added features (T68m>T68i/T610>T630/K750>W800) so i guess they will do so again.

@ Dragoneye, the S710a was a good phone! But i get ur point, not much recent stuff (850 band) since then from

i look forward to seein the full specs of it...

Posted by chungagoring
the full specs are the same as the W800 except the mentioned quadband, edge, 20mb memory and lack of radio fm.

Posted by batesie
so for other countries other than the EU then really....

Posted by EastCoastStar
if it has an 850 band... i know me and @REO will be happy about this one!

Posted by gregface
perhaps they have included 3.5mm jack this time round, seems likely since the new motorola rokr e2 has one.

Posted by brendon
a 3.5mm jack would be a nice enhancement. very curious to see how much the w810 will go for, i'm guessing $499. btw, it's hilarious that the new rokr isn't itunes compatible. talk about a major bust.

Posted by RyaN
From that pic it looks like 3.5mm jack only on the headphone/mic. I just think that picture looks photoshopped to be honest. K600 side buttons either side of joystick. T610 buttons. I dunno, we will have to wait and see

Posted by DragonEye
don't forget.. they've dropped the joystick.. i hope SE leaves the joystick entirely... i was a fan before but lately they've all gone wacky and have become unresponsive..

the new SE dpads are great w550i/w600i/w900i

Posted by brendon
well whoever photoshopped it should be working for SE's design team. it's nicely laid out and looks great too. not sure what everyone has been complaining about with the w810, we've all been moaning about the w800 and k750's strengths/weaknesses and buying a k750 then flashing to w800, but now we have the best of both worlds. i'm betting that the real reason people are upset is that it means they have to shell out some more cash for a new phone

Posted by RyaN
Well i for one wouldnt buy it, too similar to my W800 and no need for me to have quadband

Same here. Here in the uk we use the frequencies on the W800i and dont have edge.

Posted by S4k1s
I think it looks great. The 2 extra buttons on the sides are nice additions and the blody joystick is gone!

Need to see more pictures of it though, just the front don't say that much.

(:se: comes out with a quadband + EDGE phone that people have been screaming for and with some new design touches and people are now bashing for it, wtf? )

Posted by Superluminova
I quite like the style of this handst as i never liked the w800i front and back, but this to me looks like just a new cover on the same hardware basically so maybe we'll be able to swap w800i and w810 covers?

Similar features, but it does look a whole lot better in black. Not a fan at all of the cream/orange styling on the W800i

Posted by EastCoastStar
i love it honestly... but... i AM a fan of the orange . but i would rather have this than the w800i... (mainly becuase it will actually work here )

Posted by riffola
I like the new design significantly over the W800i, that's the main reason I bought a K750i because I didn't want a cream & orange phone.

I won't be upgrading to it since I can't justify another $500 for a phone when my K750i will only be a year old in mid-June. But I would love it if I can swap the housing but I doubt that's possible.

It's not exactly the same hardware, as you can see it has 2 extra buttons, thats the reason I think that won't be possible.

Good job SE, very nice design and finally Quadband and EDGE

Posted by EastCoastStar
i have a feeling this is screaming CINGULAR

Posted by alexlt
Is that good or bad??

Posted by frank2345babies
I suppose this would be bundled with hpm-80 as with the w900 to make up 4 the lack of built in radio.

Posted by shyam335
Nice,they shouldve done this earlier.

Posted by alexlt
I don't think it won't have a radio, just a misunderstood from Luis Camino

Posted by marlonski
It's looks superb in Black !

Posted by alexlt
Here you have a pic from the back:

Posted by S4k1s
That back side have to be the best one in a camera phone ever!
Well just my thoughts

Posted by alexlt
Of course, the camera part looks great, and yes it will have a radio

Maybe by the looks, but where is the protective lens cover?

Agree with you on that one. The back in black looks soooo sexy !

Posted by Beep
I'll start at 50, delivered!

Posted by S4k1s
@ Mark_Q: Hmm, you are right it don't seem to have a protective lens cover.

If that is the case I have to take back my last comment about it being the best camera phone back side ever.

Having said that ... I have to say it's still the best good looking back side of a camera phone ever (so far)
I really like the back side of the W800 .. but this one is black

(edit) Btw doesn't it look like the Canon ixus(50) front?

I like the added touch of an activity button and a walkman button, id like that feature on my W800 definately. And it does look very nice

Posted by alexlt
Yes, it doesn't have lens caver (it doesn't look like it have) but the camera lens are deeper into the phone And stills looks great

Posted by DragonEye
wonder if you can just change the housing and pcb board...

Posted by alexlt
I don't think so, the keyboard will be a problem

Posted by marlonski
I like the look of what looks like 3 speaker grills on the back. A nice touch !

Three mini subwoofers perhaps

Posted by S4k1s
@ DragonEye: You can probably change the housing with a litthe effort... but why would you want to change the pcb board?

Posted by isherdholi
Hmm...I dont think this phone is a replacement or an upgrade from the W800 (if anything its a downgrade, with ony 20MB internal mem, and no FM radio), but more as an alternative.

Working at The Carphone Warehouse, I have been asked numerous times about whether a W800 can come in black. It seems as though SE has listened to the people, but W800 users shouldnt fear, I quite like the white and orange to be honest, I think its a good unique touch, and a change from the normal black plastic.

Posted by brix25
It seems this one is made especially for countries with EDGE...means we will get it.

Posted by Memzee
marlonski, three speaker grills; only one speaker.

Posted by marlonski
I don't think it's a replacement or an upgrade either, I don't think are silly enough to that so soon after releasing the w800. It would put a lot of people off buying a new model in the fear that something even better would be released just round the corner.

I like my W800 colour but given the choice when got mine I probably would of had the black.I certainly would risk trying to change covers if they become available. I like mine enough not to risk messing around with it.

Posted by brix25
For the sake of sanity hope that don't release this phone in Europe.

Posted by jasond
@brix25 How come?

As ryanmachin commented, just the addition of the shortcut menu is enough to make this a great phone. The utility gives the user more control, and is largely underrated! After flashing my K750 to the W800, I just had to flash it back after I realised what I was missing!

@Mark_Q - More photos will no doubt confirm for sure whether there is a lens cover or not. It might just be possible that SE have actually made a cover which folds into the phone automatically when the software is started? Like on most generic digital cameras? Or could the orange dot there be some sort of trigger?

Either way! Hopefully it's a step towards not-so-creaky cases - my pet peeve about the lens cover on the K750! Also - I must say that the more seperated number buttons (in contrast to the K750) is a welcome addition!

I didn't for one minute think they would be putting 3 speakers in the back and of course it would have been mentioned as a new feature if they had of stuck 3 in. I just like the design and thought the idea of 3 subs a bit of a laugh

personally I think (if you mean just below the lense) that they are not speaker vents but a slider for a lense cover. I can't see the pic that well, I think this monitor is rooted, can't turn up the brightness, but it does look like a slider button to me.

Also, the HPM-70 headset leads me to think that there will be an onboard radio (otherwise they'd bundle it with the HPM-80).

However am I mistaken or is there no Activity button? That seems to be a backward step.

Overall however, if it has lense cover, not a bad phone at all. EDGE will be welcome to many.
