changes i've noticed in the new firmware [R4CB020] so far:

- camera software version 4.6
- java sw version 6.3
- improvement in the walkman player! metadata is now displayed for both the now playing screens and artist/album lists for M4A files
- the line bug at the end of lists when using v4.0 themes for W550 seems to be fixed now
- animations now get a weird background; and the overlapping of frames is still there.. (just when you thought it cant get any worse than that..jeez)
- faster menu navigation, but this could just be psychological

anyone else noticed what's changed?

hi, was hoping to get some assistance as to how the firmware update was done. i have 1 credit from davinci but i don't exactly know how to use it/which settings to use. thanks.

the phone also keeps booting up to file transfer mode even when i press the c button before connecting the USB cable

close out and relaunch the update service application

- take the battery out
- stick it back in
- plug the fastport end of the DCU-60 to the phone (dont plug in the USB end to the PC yet)
- hold the C button down (keep it down!)
- when the update service asks you to 'hold the C button and plug the cable in, plug in the USB end (still holding the C down!)

keep us posted if that does it for you

OK how about taking it to a friend who's successfully updated his phone and let him do it for you, just to make sure you're not doing anything wrong? If it behaves the same way, you might want to take your phone to where you bought it from

it may just be the phone. (ego alert.) but seriously, though, i updated my w800i's firmware a few days ago and it worked fine in just one try. is it even worth updating my w550's firmware, though? the only thing i'm concerned about is camera quality. has it since improved? thanks.

hai guys...i've tried update my w550i with SEUS update and having de same problems like scapevlocity...when i'm using update via gprs it said i've already latest version....soooo...can anyone help me???....thanks

Posted by kabukijep
scapevlocity: there appears to be less noise in the pics (there better be, the cam version's bumped up one notch), but again that's subjective, it might just be me. The improvement in R4C that wont make me go back is improved support for tags in M4A files. Go through the list I have up there ^^^ check if there's anything you really want then go davinci. that seems to be the only way to go for you now

Posted by kabukijep
again, if youre going davinci, make sure you:

- use client 15.3
- keep the CDA, if you want to be able to use SEUS for future updates

thanks for the tip. i keep trying to download 15.3 instead of 15.8, but whenever i open it the version is still 15.8, even though on their website the latest is 15.6. tried downloading all the 15.x ones - all come up as 15.8 when i open them on my PC. 15.8 won't recognize my phone either, as my w550 keeps going to file transfer mode.

kabukijep:

btw, can you post pictures taken with your w550? thanks.

anyone who updated through SEUS? was it successful? I still get "no new firmware" message.. anyone? thanks

has anyone noticed sound recorder problems with the w550 btw? I dunno if it's just with the latest firmware, but the sound tends to be really really soft; almost inaudible when you use the sound recorder and play it back (with either handsfree on or with the onboard speaker)/ when making and receiving calls it works without a hitch though

got my w550i upgraded thru SEUS, i guess R4CB020 is now available for download

yup you can. although, it might take a little bit longer for the program to download the files needed for the update

Posted by torque_tonic

thanks

At maximum is 60 MB. It will take forever to download..during the process your phone might run out battery..beware of it then..

Posted by torque_tonic

a few noticeable update that i found last few months
before update to R4CB020, (APAC) ( i forgot the previous firmware )
stereo widening is automatically off if you exit walkman
stereo widening can't be used in video mode
fullscreen movie is displayed with icons (now iconless)
no voice message option available in "write new"
there's multiple view mode can be set in theme, video, sounds (now gone)
system frequently crash and cause loss of java apps
screen is bluish, whereby after update the screen become greyish
(i compare 2 pieces of W550i)
user can quickly turn on loudspeaker when calling
after : must wait till the call timers on
few icons changed
faster browsing
worse camera focus after update (no autofocus make it the worst)

btw plz inform back if anyone notice newer firmware details
also, why is SE putting "auto gain control" in W550i speakers?
i can see clearly that even K750i has more bass though it only has single speaker. under midi format, W550i can do better and it produce more bass. anyone notice this?
