Greetings everyone,
On SE-W550i I found two themes that use Macromedia Flash lite animation.
I would like to know if there's a guidelines for creating the Flash animation for SE-themes, and how to include it into the theme file.
Thank you in advance for any help.

you'd need the flash editing suite I expect.

Hi Max,
Thank you for your reply.
Regarding to my original post, what else do I need to do other than getting the Macromedia Flash application?
What I am looking for is a guideline to create a Flash movie for SE themes.
Thanks.

not real sure, but I know the theme is constructed with an xml file that refers to images included in the theme, and also set's the font colours etc. This xml file would call the flash animation, which would be packed into the theme with the images and xml file.
Using a theme creator, you should be able to drag and drop a flash animation to the location you want it in the theme.
However If it turns out you can't import flash animations into the theme using the SE theme creator, then are you sure it's flash animation your are looking for and not just a gif animation for example?

@max & t-shirt:
the latest version of SE TC does not support addition of flash lite. your best bet would be to create a .thm manually using .xml as max_wedge describes. for that you will need an .xml editor as well. i posted your query at m9 to pick those themers' brains as well. GL!

Are you referring to the animated W800i desktop, where the "W." appears on the screen?
Because I thought this could have been done using an animated gif.
Posted by max_wedge
yes I wondered too. Peeps with the flash lite capable phones as their first picture phone may not realise that you can have animations without flash.
Re: the theme creation, and xml editor can be as simple as Notepad, but you will need a tar package to pack the theme back up (it uses TAR compression).
Posted by T-Shirt
@ max_wedge: I'm sure it was a Flash lite movie because I took a peek into the ClubPulse.thm using WinRAR and view the xml file then I found a line describing the Dektop Type.
This description pointing to an SWF file but I cannot found any SWF file inside the THM file nor in any visible folders in W550.

@ Jordan17:
It's not that simple, I'm sure. I see a different layout on the Desktop page. The 12 icons are different in their looks and positions. They are arraged in just 1 line at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks for forwarding this issue to m9. I hope there is a solution for SE themes with Flash movie.

Dude, convert the flash into GIf file using the save as option and then put it in the theme using the Sony theme creator.
It should work.

I've also been looking into flash lite based themes for my w900i.
Here's what i have so far:
The flash .swf file can be manually inserted into the theme.xml after you've created the theme.thm with the SE theme creator software.
The flash swf file needs to be created in macromedia flash mx with the flash lite CDK installed.
For flash based menus, You need to know the menu function interfaces that're called when you select an item in the flash menu, eg. Camera or Messages.
There's no documentation on the SE developer site for those menu interfaces through flash yet.
We need someone with a w550i to locate and upload the breakbeat.swf file that's installed somewhere in the phones filesystem. The .swf file is NOT included in the theme, it's referenced within the theme as a file already installed in the phones filesystem.
Once we get that breakbeat.swf file, we'll know the interfaces for menu items to call within macromedia flash mx when we create the flash menu or other theme item.
So, anyone with access to a w550i, please have a try to locate the .swf file!

@ mysh:
I have searched for any SWF file inside W550 and found nothing. I suspect that those SWF files are somewhere beyond the user accessible file system. Maybe they are stored in a protected storage space that SE lock from being accessed by users.

T-shirt thanks for trying anyway
I'm going to email the SE developer site and ask when we're going to get some documentation for flash based user interfaces. I'll post back here with their reply.

I think the ClubPulse theme can be downloaded from SE website under the W550 Themes category.
Try to locate it here:

I am downloading theme creator 2.10 from SE and they said that it has new support for p990 icons, perhaps w900 too I hope!
the file size is 7.7mb about the double size of the TC 2.0 so something new has been added to it.
I will tell you if it supports flash lite.
sorry if someone already talked about this version before
Posted by vegetaleb
ok I tried the 2.10 version and no flash lite support !
whoever I think that the different flah lite files like avenue.swf are IN the firmware,so we would be not able to use make new icons but use the 3 different ones already in the firmware, how?
once you finish your theme ,open it with a software that open tar files like winrar, then in the xml file just add the line
then save the xml file and repack to thm,I think it should work!

isnt .svg a flash lite file?
Posted by Dan_Aykroyd
Could you please post a link to a SWF theme for w800 / k750 just to see the difference between that and a 'common' one?
Thanks.
Posted by vegetaleb
Tried some flash lite files on the w900,flash applications work perfectly and animations too even better and faster than gif!
What a pitty that SE has frozen the option to set them as screensavers, hope in the next firmware...

iv been lookin for that.. the only flash theme's i know of is clubpulse, breakbeat and supposedly walkman theme but that theme is ultimately rare..

An SVG file is not a Flash Lite file. It is more like an XML file (it has a similar structure). SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphic.

well Flash Lite uses SVG files..

Any one strong in XML editing?
we could try to make a xml that load the swf inside the firmware and copy it into an accesible folder...
Posted by T-Shirt
Hhmmm... I doubt that those SWF files can be copied into an accesible folder.
I do not know if that can be done through an XML script.

For those who would like to download the ClubPulse theme for SE-W550i, try this link:

Note: watch out the possible line wrap in the above URL address.

Try this one http://www.taran.ho.com.ua/phone/se/themes/WalkM_w810_CP.thm
Posted by grca73
swf files will only be reachable maybe in the future by using third party like cruiser or setool once full support for cid 49 is added.
files are stored somewhere in the firmware hopefully on fs and not the main.
for now all we can do is reference the existing themes in xml to use preloaded 2 flash lite desktops for w550/600 and 3 for w810. example match any dark theme to use orbit.swf in w810.
once we are able in the future to get to those embeded .swf files maybe and only maybe it will be possible to do some workaround in themes creator to make it available to the general user and not just select owners of flash tools and service cables.

@ grca73:
Thanks a lot for sharing this information. Hopefully SE would provide a tool for creating and inserting Flash Lite movie into SE themes soon.

i've got w900 swf menu.can i put it in the thm files?
Posted by jack77777
try it , i really want some more flash themes for my w850i
Posted by wanakin
i've got w810 swf menu files, put one in the w850 thm file, edit the xml file, transfer to the phone, apply it....just an ordinary menu!
any ideas?
Posted by glorfingal
@wanakin - it will depend on whether the flash file is on the 850 itself.
e.g. put backstreet into an 810 theme wont work, but orbit will.
Posted by qwerty1235
actually, I have found out how to use the built in flash themes for any theme.
1. rename the theme with the flash file (i.e orbit.thm) to orbit.zip.
2. extract the theme using Winzip or WinRAR.
3. you sholuld see a file called 'Theme.xml'.
4. open it and copy the line:
<Desktop_style Type="File" Source="avenue.swf" />
5. extract a theme that does not contain flash menus. Copy the line to the Theme.xml.
Put all the files back to a zip folder and rename the file extension to *.thm.
It works for me and I hope this helps!

Posted by glorfingal
@jack77777 - you may find that clubpulse wont work - I'm not sure
waht swf files other phones have .... the 810i only has orbit, emerge and
equalizer (my k800i has none !)

Hi everyone
Creation of flash themes have been an interest for SE users for a while now. I'll say it here again, phones with flash themes have the swf files embedded in the phone so any modifications you make to the .xml file, would give you anything of the same preset flash display.
However, i was wondering if creating your own swf files, store them in some place in your phone or memorycard, then editing the .xml file to reference to those files you've created; i was wondering whether this will this work? I actually haven't taken a look at the .xml file myself.
Oblivion where are you!

Hi fellows, sorry if my english is lousy. I want to share abit about modding thm files. It's true about what qwerty1235 is telling you all about the step to incorporate swf standby to a thm file but it's not right about renaming the extention to zip as i have read somewhere that the thm should be renamed to tar before extracting it. After extracting the tar you should follow what qwerty has told you. It should work with any thm without swf too, just add the line qwerty had refers to the xml and put the swf standby along inside the extracted folder then use "Tugzip" (it's freeware!!!:-)) to compress to tar! There is another line you should add to make the thm to use the swf menu along. I forgot the line though. Since i dont have pc at my home then i will continue this as i go to the public internet cafe so you all can have the excitement from modding your flash theme.
Cheers from Dangerously Beautiful Indonesia
