Sony Ericsson further strengthens its Bluetooth offering – unveils the HBH-60 Headset

September 24, 2002

Sony Ericsson today unveiled the Bluetooth™ Headset HBH-60. This small and light headset is comfortable to wear, easy to handle and can be used with all Bluetooth mobile phones. The HBH-60 will be on the market in Q4 2002.

Sony Ericsson has several Bluetooth hands-free solutions in its portfolio. The HBH-60 is for active mobile users who are often on the move. The HBH-60 looks fashionable with its clear lines, and sits comfortably on either ear. The microphone is located at the end of a short arm. When the phone rings, the headset is activated instantly and the call can be answered by using a voice command or pressing a single button. The headset can be used up to 10 meters from the phone it is connected to.
The advantages with a hands-free solution to a mobile phone are plenty and these kind of products were first on the market to utilize Bluetooth. The HBH-60 can be used with any brand of mobile phone that supports the Bluetooth Headset and/or hands-free profile. This is in line with Sony Ericsson’s ambition to have full Bluetooth compatibility and offer a wide range of attractive wireless solutions for the consumer.

The leading computer and mobile phone manufacturers, as well as makers of other devices such as printers, audio and camera equipment and more, have all adopted Bluetooth and many have already integrated it into their products. Sony Ericsson has demonstrated commercially available connectivity solutions through Bluetooth with Apple, TDK, Palm, Sony and many others.

The Sony Ericsson HBH-60 is small; its earpiece is a discreet 72 mm long and light; it weighs a comfortable 22 grams. It offers talk time up to 2.5 hours and standby time up to 70 hours.

i think the hbh-30 looks better...... wonder how much the hbh-60 would be ?

Posted by riflogic
Seems like is now trying to lure more customers to them as they were no plans before today and all of a sudden they released new accessories and a T100 phone.

the look is definitely better than HBH-30 as the mix of colour is better. HBH-30 have around 4 different colour on the product but this HBH-60 is small, neat and clean. The only thing I don't really like is the colour. Look very dull or boring.

lucky i did not buy the HBH 30 ..

bloody hell, the HBH-30 has JUST been released and already they're finding an alternative.....

i mean it's not like there are a lot more things you can do with a headset.....
I wish they would make the range 100 metres.... THAT would be interesting!

P800 = standard version and P802 = Chinese version

P800:
- EMEA, Americas, Latin Asia
- Latin characters (a, b, c…) on the flip
- Latin character handwriting recognition
- 12 Mbyte Memory + 16 Memory Stick

P802
- Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan
- Chinese Flip and input methods
- Chinese handwriting recognition
- Chinese dictionary
- Lunar calendar
- Chinese games
- 9 Mbyte + 16 Memory Stick

The data is taken from the old P800 whitepaper released in April. Data (internal memory) may have changed since then.

The P800 enables latin characters to be entered via the keys on the flip. The P802 supports Chinese character input using Stroke, Smart Pinyin and Smart Bopomofo. There are two P802 flip options, one with strokes and one with Bopomofo characters.

I think it looks like a cross between the HBH-10 and HBH-30... the battery is again located in the boom section, rather than the earpiece loop like with the HBH-30.

It looks a lot shorter than the HBH-30, but a lot fatter... I like the look of the HBH-30 better. If only they made the damn blinking light blue instead of green... it's not Greentooth ya know!

BTW, I own both the HBH-10 and HBH-30... no big improvement in either model... just looks. The HBH-10 has a longer range, the HBH-30 is lighter on the ear. The HBH-60 is just another option.

I like the fact that Ericsson/SE has 4 models to choose from... but the one you like since none of them are significantly better than the other. I love the look of the HBH-30. I'm sticking with that until they can cram the phone into the headset itself! HHAHAHA

Just get the motorola bluetooth headset! saves battery! dontr have to open the boom all the time! Works perfectly fine with my T68ie ( R5A020)

Plus it emits blue light!! once call comes in, i just open the boom and voila! connected in a swift! cool i must say.

why is it black and chrome silver! all of SE's phones are blue and pale silver! wheres the conistancy!

Bluespoon wins hands down every time

I think it is a cool accessory. the good point is that it will help the price of the previous models drop faster. The logo is cool! Also on the FM radio handfree...
Colors are cool, I guess they didn't make it white in order to be more discrete to wear. I don't like the metallic one from Motorola. I agree that Bluespoon is better, but what about the price? Bluespoon is very expensive so I might buy the hbh 60...

might produce a lot of different headset models because they can be used with more phones, not just and this will be a whole new market and therefore might want to start with an advantage over competitors and create a brand name and be recognizable as high quality manufacturer in that specific field.

Do you think one will be able to listen to MP3s through that device? Of course only one ear is not what I would call Hi-Fi, but it would be an interesting feature anyway.
Any information on standby time, release date, price?
Thanks

as long as it is in a reasonable price for general public, then it will win all the other bt headset in the market. (referring to Bluespoon)

Especially in Asian country as the price in expansys can let us get two T39.

BTW HBH-60 will most likely be able to let us wear on either left or right ear. The colour is not follow the other phone made by SE and so far, only this headset and the HCB-30 is using this type of colour scheme....kinda werid right?

very nice....i think IMHO SE would provide me the support needed cause in Singapore i dun think i can get this kinda service from any other BT manufacturer

Posted by c96sthl
hey Nokia have a new BT headset as well. But it does look similar to the HBH-60 as both have a small hook but it seem like nokia's BT headset hook didn't really hook. It look like those new sunglass hook design.

Kinda cool but it is a bit huge IMHO. The nicest thing is only tht you can replace the battery unlike all SE BT headset tht didn;t allow you to do that.

cool!!!
i cant wait for it to be released including the hpr-20 and P800!!!

Posted by jplacson
Yup, Nokia has a BRAND NEW Bluetooth headset... a PERFECT accessory for the kick-ass 7650!!! THAT my friends is a company that CARES about their customers!

Posted by hymie
Yeah sure, Jplacson!

Only that the 7650 DOES NOT SUPPORT the Bluetooth Voice Profile!
Alas, so you cant use your oh-so-well Nokia BT Headset with it!

You just made a complete fool out of yourself!

cheers,
hymie

uhm... I was being sarcastic... I've never owned a Nokia, I currently use a T68, MCA-20, HBH-30 setup. I have an R310s, DBA-10, HBH-10 backup setup.

Posted by c96sthl
NO it look really cool to have a BT headset and 7650!!! coz it shows that you are smarter than the people in Nokia as you manage to get the Headset profile into the phone while those ppl in Nokia fail to do so

BTW the new Nokia BT headset do sound ambitious. They try to do the same like in SE BT headset....support all other
BT phone. Hope it wont flop again.

The user guide is out too so you can see how to change battery and change the hook to suit the user left or right ear.

Still will wait for HBH-60 coz it look clean and smaller.
