k750i (w800) media player

I was wondering how people use the media player (all firmware versions up through R1N035), because for my usages i find it pretty crappy; since i can't find long threads of people complaining about this, perhaps i'm just using it in some bizarre manner.

In general, i:
. make a folder let's say for an entire album of mp3s on my duo
. make a new playlist adding that folder

Now, i am unable to sort these mp3s by:
. filename
. id tag information

this leaves me with a play list i can sort basically by whatever the media player wants to do by default or, even more uselessly, the name of the song.

Also, when playing in a playlist in shuffle mode - it will repeat a song before playing other songs (for example, given songs A, B, C - shuffle will play B, A, B, C). Perhaps this is because something gets reset in the state it stores when i pause playback, or jump to the next song in the shuffle.

So basically, my k750i has an mp3 player which, to me, has the feature set of a junior college programming project. Does everyone else just not have a problem with unsorted playlists and shoddy shuffle, or am i on crack, or ?

Hi, the w800´s media player is different from k750´s but here it goes. I can sort the files by tile, artist or as created.I usually transfer entire albuns so what i do to have the mp3s in the right order (1,2,3...) is adding them first the 1, and so on. U dont have to add one by one just select the whole album selecting first the 1 song and so on, than just drag and drop, it works for me. I dont use playlists couse i usually listen to whole albums so i just use the w800´s interface, however, i have tested the shuffle option once and it seemed to work just fine. I´m using r1n035

Posted by quaeler
i'm not sure how the w800 player is different than the k750i's - from what you've described from sorting, they are the same at least.

i didn't know that adding a mp3s one by one defined an ordering like that -- it's painful, but a solution for ordering - danke.

as far as repeating on shuffle - i listen to shuffle a lot, so maybe it's a relatively rare phenomenon, or else i have uniquely bad hardware which affects the pseudo-random number generation somehow.

what i do is i have a playilist (k750) in itunes. Then i drag and drop ALL the files from the playlist to my mp3 folder on the memory stick.

This will copy the songs alphabetically, so when i start my media player on the k750 they will be ordered by song name (dont want to go to sort -> song title everytime i start!!!)

However when iwant to copy more songs onto the duo, they will simply be added to the end of the list on the media player (so its not in alphabetical order). After enough songs, lets say 10, i delete ALL so that i can copy ALL back and this time they are ALL in alphabetical order.

Do you know what i mean?

edit: when copying onto duo then its basically first copied is first on the media player list

I flashed my k750i with w800i firmware. The Walkman branded media player is loadz better, you actually get a playback screen which gives details about the song as apposed to a permanant list of songs.

For you guys who have flashed to W800i, when you go into 'Service info' then 'Model info' (>,*,<,<,*,<,*) does your model read 'K750i' or 'W800i'?

WHAT!?

Hmmm, u know thats strange. Ive got all the walkman branded menus and icons etc.

When i did the firmware update, i had fully charged the battery and when it finished an error message came up saying 'battery depleted- you must charge the battery in another phone and reflash' and that 'you will not be able to turn your phone back on but it is not dead'. So i started to panic. But then i took the battery out, put it back in and the phone turned on with no problem so i disregarded this error. Did it not flash my phone properly? Is this why my phone is still reading w800i?

Posted by coo1k3n
Re-flashed and now it's properly flashed as a W800i, before it was half unbranded, and still half a k750i with the w800i walkman media player.

Now it's fully unbranded, without the O2 icons and with the Walkman start-up screens. I knew there was something odd!!!

Im getting my new K750i tomorrow and i'd love to know how you flash your k750i with W800i firmware. Its probably been explained before - but if anyone has the time to let me know it would be greatly appreciated.

there are heaps of threads discussing it. I'd have to use search myself to find them so you might as well do the leg work

This was simple using the search function as max suggested.

Happy reading.

I fail to understand why you guys whinge about the quality of the mp3 player. Also, the sound quality is fine. If you want something with all the bells and whistles, get an ipod or any other dedicated mp3 player.

Else, copy only the songs you like on the memory card then it doesnt matter which track, and in what order it's playing.

I currently have 85 songs on my card and I'm not bothered in which order they play as I like all the songs, so playlists are not needed either.

I use the music player on average 3 hours per day when on the train and then on the Underground and I have not heard the same track play twice.

...just my opinion, not trying to flame anyone...

@Uncle Bob

I have a creative zen micro and a set of sure e2c's headphones and believe me when I say the sound is superb. I will quite often leave this great sounding piece of kit behind and just use my w800 not only because it is convinient but because although not as good as the aformentioned it is still very enjoyable. I am very happy with the quality of the walkman player and with a 512 card i have enough music to listen to for a few hours, have 3 half hours episodes of one of my fav shows on and still have enough room to take 100 + photos.

To do a K750i to W800i conversion, use this place:
http://www.totalserver.net

It uses the Total MultiServer program with their server- it costs only £8 for a credit which can be bought through PayPal (it's cheaper than other places i've looked at, like http://www.totalmultiserver.com where it costs £10).

The best thing about this specific website/server is that you can use your existing DCU-60 USB cable that came with your K750i in order to do the firmware update/upgrade (saving you money- which you cannot do with most other services), but you cannot use the DCU-60 cable to unlock your phone should it be barred.

Using your USB cable to do this upgrade you will unbrand your phone (get rid of say any O2 icons and download shortcuts in your folders, and all of the O2 startup and shutdown screens), unlock your phone so it can be used with any network/sim card, and most importantly convert your phone to a W800i with all the W800i Walkman start-up screens, Walkman media player/icons and your Shortcut button above the joystick will become the shortcut to the Walkman Media Player. Your mobile will practically be a W800i in a K750i looking housing- which can be easily changed (if you like the orange!).

Below is a list of steps in order to upgrade using TotalMultiServer.net- NOTE: Before you begin you must back-up your phonebook contacts and mobile data as these will not be saved. It is also a good idea to back-up your memory card:

1) Visit http://www.totalserver.net

2) Click the 'Buy Now' Icon at the top of the page

3) Type in Your Name, E-Mail address (needed to receive username and password) and then click 'Proceed'

4) Follow the steps for payment via PayPal or credit/debit card to complete payment

5) The transaction should be made instantly and you will receive your username and password in your E-Mail inbox

6) Click the 'Download' button at the top of the TotalMultiServer.net and download the TMS Client Software.

7) Once downloaded unzip the file and run the 'TOTAL Multi-Server.exe' program

8) At the bottom left hand corner of the program, type in your username and password then click the 'Download Area' button on the right.

9A) On the right hand side of the program, a list of folders will appear. Navigate to/click the folders to download the latest W800i firmware (this may have changed and may be different from the below):

SonyEricsson W Series > W800i - W800c > 2005-12-19 - W800i_R1AA008_RED_CID36 > 1.- EU-EMEA-US > 1.FIRMWARE

Download the W800i-R1AA008_ZONE_1_EU-EMEA-US.75S file.

9B) Now to download the latest language file (this may have changed and may be different from the below):
Click the folder beneath named >2.- DEFAULT LANGUAGE.

Select the language file that you require for your country, for UK users this is usually 'W800i_R1AA008_EU2_EN_DE_FR_ST_TR_ZU.75D'.

(To check this check your current language version by pressing > * < < * < * and going to 'Service info' then 'Software info'.)

10) Once downloaded, click the 'Exit' button just above the advertisement banner.

11) Now on the left side of the program select your brand 'Sony Ericsson' then model 'K750i/D750i/W800i'.

12) Below that on the 'Flash Menu', click the folder icon next to 'Select FIRMWARE File' and navigate to the firmware folder and to the firmware file.

Do the same for the 'Select DEFAULT LANGUAGE File'.

13) THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. It automatically selects to disable the Camera Shooter Sound. Uncheck this should you want to keep the camera sound after upgrading.

14) Ignore the 'EROM Repair' settings and move down to the Computer COM port and Cable Settings. Under the 'Original SonyEricsson Cable' box check/select 'DCU-60 FastPort USB Cable'.

15) Once your ready click the 'Program Files to Phone Memory' button. This is where the actual upgrade begins.

16) On the right hand side panel of the program follow the steps carefully. Remember that when your phone is connected DO NOT TOUCH IT, it may take a while and it may seem that nothing is happening- but be patient.

17) Once completed your credit will be deducted. You will notice instantly if your phone has successfully upgraded to W800i as the menu screens will have changed.

Oh yeh- and good luck!

Hi,

Im planning on doing the K750 > W800 conversion. Had a few Qs....

What do you reckon is the best firmware for the W800- looking through the thread it seems R2L has the fewest problems (Im still on R1a (or whatever the initial one is)).

Also, can I select to upgrade to any firmware version with totalserver or davinci or does it have to be the latest one?

Cheers!

Posted by coo1k3n
It can be any- not just the latest firmware available. There's a whole list of the previous and the latest firmware available.

you are probably best to stick with R1L...read the forum thread for more info - even just the last few pages on the latest R1N and R1AA - they both have some major file transfer bugs.

Well the thing that the w800 is according to SE a real mp3 player. And they say that the walkman logo stands for high quality sound.
I have an iPod and its sound quality is way better. Though with the new firmware its better but its still crap between the songs, clicks and hissing. Very irritating.

Does it always do that?
Mines never done it i think.
Actually with true randomization its possible that a song comes back like you say.
When apple released the iPod shuffle pepole where complaining about the same thing so apple actually changed the firmware to be "not really random" so that one song doesent come back until after a while.

It took me qute a while, i think i remember having to wait like 15-20 mins (maybe more) for the whole thing to complete. Have you had any success? Did it work in the end?

does flashing k750 to w800 delete sim contact numbers and files on mem stick duo?

Posted by max_wedge
sim contacts no, files on mem stick no. Infact usually you remove the sim card and mem card from the phone anyway. When I did a seus update, my mem card became corrupted and I had to reofrmat it - so I suggest removing the mem card when doing any kind of flashing.

Wkd (well done!)- No problemo by the way .

As mentioned b4, the first attempt i had looked like it worked but it didnt (my k750i was still the same but only the walkman player had been integrated, so it was stuck between the two models)- so i had to do it a 2nd time and it did it properly (unbranded it, brought up W800i icons etc). I find that with many users FW updates using clients other than SEUS can be very unreliable and unpredictable...

As much as i originally didn't like the W800i housing- i've finally made my decision to order one. It's cuz the K750i has gone down in price and loadza peeps have it now (so i have to have the need to be different!!! Ennit sad...). Plus i figured my phone is practically a W800i anyways so i might as well complete the transition. I guess somewhere inside of me likes the white and the orange!

Hi
I'm a new user. I bought the k750 about 1 month ago and it's wonderful. Now i'm thinking of transform it in w800, because i listen a lot of music and i would like the flight mode (i'm buying the original w800 headphones too)
But I have some questions.

- After debranding my phone, can i upgrade it with the SE Update Service? will it be recognized like k750 or w800?

- Are there any screenshots of the media player in w800 and its caratteristics?

I hope you can reply to me!

Posted by JwY
if you flash your k750 to a w800, seus will no longer work

Posted by 30heartaches
Then, I have to reflash, lost all my files and configurations and pay, every time there is a new upgrade?!?

Posted by baste07
after flashing your k750 ti w800 wont seus work? won't it detect the phone as w800 and look for the necesary w800 firmware? and load it

Posted by coo1k3n
It depends if you have flashed with the correct CID number (or something or other) that reflects your operator and the firmware version. Some have reported that after flashing a k750i with W800i firmware they are able to use SEUS (i've yet to try as there is not new firmware version on SEUS for me to update to currently).

Posted by 30heartaches
I'm Italian and I use Vodafone. So, can i follow your guide to flash my phone or i have to do something different?

Posted by 30heartaches
no one can help me?

Posted by Cookie
Yes, you can flash your phone using the instructions in this thread. But when you choose your firmware and default language pack, make sure you choose the ones for your region.

Posted by 30heartaches
Thank you very much. I think it's Europe_5.

Anyway, my bigger fear is that i won't be able to upgrade the firmware in the future
