Ok so I've decided to do something with my phone...give it some different color. I tried to do with something conservative, but silver and grey is conservative and elegant enough to be the original color. Didn't wanna mess up the "image" of the phone just make it a little more interesting. Well its still in the process, which menas that I have to wait until the paint comepletely cures , before I make it a little shinier, but here is a little taste, see how you like it.The side buttons arepainted as well, basiacally everything except the back panel cause the little camera slider is not really meant to be taken apart. By the way the colors are Tamiya "pearl white" and Tamiya "racing blue"

you've got guts to spray your cover

Anyway i think the colour combination looks good however the finish doesnt look too nice, sorry mate. Like the side on view it looks a bit 'cheap'. But hey its a good colour change if you are bored of your old one

Posted by dgilmartin
You should use Tamiya Gloss on top for the perfect finish

Posted by RyaN
yeah definately use gloss. From the front shot, it also looks like the white part could do with another coat as you can see the black through it a little. The gloss will stop it chipping, as it looks like it has down the sides on the white bit. The blue colour looks good though

Posted by clank
Sorry mate but the colors dont look good imo....

A second cleaner coat will def make it look a litter better tho....

Posted by george78
As I've mentioned the paint for still wet for me to make it shiny....I'll post some pictures once its complete. Thanks for the opinions though!

wow your very brave with your phone, i wouldnt dare do that to my phone... anyway looks good

Ouch ! poor phone you got balls mate ! Nice try but IMHO it doesn't work (sorry). Still if you get fed up with the look you could always buy replacement covers

i personally love the colors.

but nothing beats the w800i colors (love the orange!) but i like the colors you picked.

After getting all the panels glossy I've still decided that that blue has to go...just didn't seem to fit the "image" of the phone. I still like the pearl white though...so that one stays maybe for a little more. By the way I was gutsy about this experiment cause my new cover is on the way...my screen never had a screen protector so it got kinda scratched up. I might get a cover made out of aluminum though...my buddy has a CNC shop, and maybe get that one anodized. Thanks for all the "ouch"-es and the few "ehh ok":-)

I'll tell you all it took a lot longer to remove the blue paint than it did to spray it on...Anyways I don't think the only think was the lack of glossyness on the blue one. It just didn't seem to fit this phone even after being glossy. The pearl white I kept on the front and I do like it. it doesn't have a glossy finish , just kind of like a satin just like the original. Here is a couple of pics. I think it goes pretty well with the silver.

Could you right a step to step guide with pictures please? I'm quite interested in doing this

Posted by EastCoastStar
what kind of paint are you using?
i liked the blue... but then again, it looked kind of childish.

right, take the phone apart as shown.

mask,or use masking fluid or something (or our very kind friend in this thread could tell us what he used ) to cover up bits you dont want painted, then paint away.

again, our mate from this thread can tell us which paints to use

gloss it up, let it dry put it back together again!

oh, and to be on the safe side, using a Vodafone K750 lol!

ALSO

here is a thread where you can post up your modified phones and contact people that have modded theirs!

I can give you a step by step guide altough I didn't complete the whole process. For taking apart the phone you can find a step by step guide at www. se-nse.com don't do it if you don't feel comfortable about it and know that it will ruin your warranty. Other then that if you're serious about doin it, I'll give you some pointers. Don't take these pictures as examples, these were rather experimenting than serious painting. For example I haven't use primer, which would've made it easier to get a perfect cover, I only waited about 1 hour after painting to put it together having this only phone, can't have it turned of for the whole day. By the way the paint I've used were Tamiya model paints.

step by step guide at se-nse.net

Yes and a great step by step I add. Helped me a lot when I took it apart the first time.

I'd experiment with color combinations in photoshop first if I were to do something like this. I can see the prying has damaged the edges of the covers, isn't there a better way of opening it?

Posted by george78
Yes, there is a better way. I just didn't know that better way until recently. I'm getting a new cover anyways , so I wasn't worried about this one too much anymore.

@ one wap dude
P!SS OFF WITH SPAMMING PLEASE!!

@george

Fancy selling me the casing?

the sides, its got nothing to do with ur paintjob, looks as if the phone's received a lot of batterting and dropping, u cud also try using sandpapers on the side to smoothen the rough edges and then respray it again. nice color taste! i like it.

Posted by Nebbs
Im terribly sorry but thats just plain wrong! actually rather nasty. Its akin to having an Aston Martin and having a go of adding your own go faster stripes with a tin of Dulux and a 6" brush...sorry to sound harsh but the K750i is perfect the way it is, leave it as it should be!!!

Rant Over!

Yeah I agree. Still looks a little rough around the edges. I too suggest trying sand paper or glass paper (same thing I think). Be careful though, its only delicate.
I prefer the white and black.

@ Nebbs:

Thanks for the honest opinion. I do think that the casing color on the k750i is quite perfect, but I have never been the conventional guy that just went where everybody went...that's why I'm experimenting with different things. And since the blue color was a litlle out of the phone's image I decided to take it off. Don't get me wrong I love the look of the k750, but I get bored with looks so even in the best case I"ll be replacing the cover with silver or make a w800 of it. By the way I wouldn't paint an Aston Martin with a brush unless it was yours and I'd want to make a practical joke on you:-)

At JT:

If you had read the all the post, you could have seen that I even said that I didn't complete the process due to lack of time (so I can use the phone again) and due to the fact that I was only experimenting this time. By the way sandpaper and glosspaper...hmm I guess what you're thinking of as gloss paper is actually a fine 1500-2000 grit wetsand paper that they use to even out the small imperfection the spray paint causes, then fine rubbing compount that would just make it glossy. And a couple of layers of clear coat, that I didn't do either. Once I come up with some color that I found esthetic enough to work on to a perfect finish I'll post it. Thanks for advice though~

heres mines.
i did this one year ago. used car paint. the silver has pearl in the paint. u gotta sand the plastic first so the old paint comes off. then light prime if u want. but i didnt use prime.. cant be botherd.

btw. the pic seems over exposed parts(in some pic) and some purple fringering..prob due to the reflective pearl and the clear coat.
the very last pic is what the back of the phone looks like right now.

and also. the sparkle on the pearl is not that bright in the daylight.. its coz of the xenon flash that made it look so sparkly.. looks much better in daylight

Here's a K750 I did a year or so ago:

Metallic red. I actually removed the metal keypad surround to do this. This avoids the paint filling in the cracks between the plastic and metal (which looks cheap and nasty)

@Max nice color mixture. looks like Ferrariiish

@anyway who had modded their covers:

does anyone had painted their K750 with glossy/piano black? i am planning on painting my W800(the real casing of my phone) housing to glossy black + silver just like the Sony PSP.

Nice, rookwise. Very cool

@rookwise:

awesome mod you got there, mate - - - love the orange theme!

Posted by razec
^^ ditto @aldrin! one of the finest!

@max_wedge: That paintjob looks cool! Like a red T610i (which I think may have been your inspiration?). Very nice.

@Rookwise: I think SE copied that colour of yours for the K770i Henna Bronze! It looks pretty similar!

Posted by razec
^^ @Oli: remember the leaked K750 spypic before the actual color(black) was announced? the color is copper which resembles rookwise's custom K750.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
I don't recall seeing that...

Posted by razec
^^

haven't seen this?

thanks to goldenface, he posted this on the "Sony Ericsson K-series with GPS in the wild" thread

Thanks mate. Actually I wasn't thinking of the red T610 when I started, but once I had completed it I was very pleased to notice it did indeed look somewhat like a T610

cheers everyone. the middle and buttons are from a W800 and went straight on. just matched the colour as best as possible and then flashed with W800 firmware. doing another one next week which i'll be putting for sale.
