Hello!
I bet many of you are irritated that in Sony Ericsson phones, when you connect the handset and a call comes in, the ringtone is played from the phone's on-board speakers and not through the earphones. However, you can change that. Simply follow the few steps below and you are all set:
Go to: Menu >> Settings >> General >> Profiles >> Handsfree (More >> View and edit) >> Silent Mode >> On >> C (back) >> Accessories >> Portable h-free
Done! Now, whenever you plug in the handsfree, the phone will automatically switch it's profile to 'Handsfree' and the 'Silent Mode' will be activated. Then, the phone will vibrate and ring in your ear when a call comes in. When you remove the handsfree, the phone will again switch back to the previous profile.

i must admit thats a handy tip! i use it all the time with my bluetooth headset and used to use it with my wired headsets too...

Yeah, I use this same method all the time too. I just set my handsfree profile to silent and the call can be heard on the hedphones.

When u want it just press n hold # button. It's easier i think.And u don't need change handsfree profile.

If u activate silent mode by pressing # when handsfree is plugged in, (this will make the ringtone come trough the earpice) the phone will remember that the next time u plug in handsfree.
When unplugged it will go back to the setting u had before.

I dont switch the phone to silent when on handsfree for the reason that I dont hear who is calling.
I have voice dial and the phone plays their names when they call me. But the phone doesn't do that when it is on silent.

The ring cannot be heard through the headphones by default in handsfree mode on my W800.
By editing the profile 'just the once', to silent mode the ring is then actually heard through the headphones everytime you have the handsfree set on.

great!! it works with my T630, I hoped it would work when playing pagmes but no, yet the good thing is that the camera shutter sound is heard through the hands free, wich is good
could come in handy for those K-series users who can't turn off the shutter sound.

i've tried listening to an AMR file and it sound horrible with the speakers, but with the hands free it sounds quite nice

Hey all, new here but have been lurking and learning alot over the past couple of years.
Anyhow, alas I'm worthy the forums as I'm the proud owner of a W810. Absolutely love it. However I find it odd that my phone doesn't switch to a handsfree profile when plugged in. Just a headphone icon appears but no handsfree. Whats the deal?

@Spindizzy: since the k750,
seemed to want its users to manually associate certain profiles with its accessories. to do this with the w810: Menu > Settings > Profiles > scroll down to 'Handsfree' > More > View and edit > Accessories > New accessory Portable h-free
to the original poster: very spiffy! ive been going at wits end trying to get that ringtone to play through the headset. i didnt realize putting the phone in silent mode is the way to go

Sorry to bring back a 2-3 month old post but thanks for the tip OP (original poster).
I have a question though (instead of flooding thread with new post), I have SE HBH-GV435 bluetooth headset. How do I get this to automatically switch my profile? I have a w810i.

Ok, nevermind. I got the handsfree profile to pop up when it connects to my bluetooth headset. Not only did I have to choose the "Portable h-free" (for wired headset) but I had to choose "Accessory 11 0" as well.

This is some the quality of function that Ericsson was known for, and crossed over to SE products. I started a thread a few days ago that only 1 person commented on; and I was hoping more functional yet elegant implementation like this could be seen in future renditions of the calendar app in SE phones.
To the OP you have NO idea how much many Esato members & SE fans alike have been looking for this feature. Incredible post.
MODS! Can this be either made a sticky or updated in ALL recent model SE fone tips & tricks, please?!

Unfortunately this tip is not working for my K850i, and I'm not sure why? I do see a new icon (possibly the handsfree icon when my HPM-75's are plugged in though, but hte phones external speakers still sound off the ringtone on an incoming call.

I have noticed that this feature stopped functioning after a firmware upgrade of my K800i. After the next upgrade, it started to function again. With the current version I use, (R1KG001), it works, so my tip is that you should try to upgrade the firmware on your K850i, and then it may work.

I'd like to know how to get this to work on my K770i with my bluetooth headset. I can do it just fine with my HPM-82, but I can't do the same with my bluetooth headset. It'll be great if I could get it to work with my bluetooth headset. Thanks!
