3g is crap and eats lot of battery,in foreign countries ppl havin 3g switch it off. I heard bpl gives wap at only Rs.50 per month,unlimited downloads. That wud be good. But whenever i change,the offer goes away!

the speeds here in up too suck even some1 is on mobile office!
firstly its bloody expensive (600 a mth), secondly available only on postpaid , thirdly the speed factor . these all discourage people to opt for mobile office!!!
and wats the 3g thing goin on, are they rumours or wat! here yhe network goes down from 6pm to 10pm... (ie. no incoming and outgoin) i guess they maybe testin 3g or what!!!

said but, i used ur your concept with mine.
This is for everybody who r using airtel with nokia phones with gprs enabled handsets.
Everyone with airtel connection can access wap site on their mobile and web on their Pc's.
I live in kolkata. I didn't try it another cell i will do it shortly.
Here's goes the trick......
1) Call customer care and activate Airtel Live and MMS service they activate immediately.
2) This is the Setting for your Cell for WAP connection
SETTING NAME : airtellive ( all small )
HOMEPAGE : http://live.airtelworld.com
DATA BEARER : gprs
ACCESS POINT NAME : airtelfun.com
SECURITY : off / normal or non-secure ( depend on handset )
SESSION MODE : permanent
USERNAME : none or blank
PASSWORD : none or blank
PHONE IP : automatic
PRIMARY SERVER : 0.0.0.0 ( depend on handset )
SECONDARY SERVER : 0.0.0.0
PROXY SERVER ADDRESS OR IP ADDRESS : 100.1.200.99
PROXY PORT : 8080 ( most handset dont have port option so it does't matter )
Try access airtel live portal and it will successful open and when try to open another wap site it will say "No server Access" then rename the APN to airtelmms.com. Now try to open airtel live again it won't open it will show some error .
3) Now for the Setting for PC's for WEB
Go to setting of ur mobile -- connectivity -- gprs -- edit modem setting -- alias name : airtellive ; modem access point: airtelmms.com and activate
4) Configure your browser to use proxy i have used Microsoft explorer 6.0.
Go to internet option -- connection -- settings then click enable proxy or VPN to 100.1.200.99 & Port 8080 and click OK.
Now make new dial-up connection name anything u like and the dialing No. would be *99***1#
Now connect your mobile with any connectivity option ( cable , infrared , bluetooth ) i haved used infrared. Now connect it , u will connected instantly.
Surf the net , download anything u like free of cost with good connection speed.

Tunneling through mms access point wont work in Kerala circle... I think they have closed the connection port 8080 ...but only to mms port 8799.. Its not done in kolkatta...

Tunneling through mms access point was working till October 18th 2005 on Karnataka. After that they have fixed the problem. I heard that It's still open in Kolkata.

Customer care people r saying Edge facility available only at cochin in kerala . Is it true . And there also it is run on an experimental basis and if it works fine it will be extended to rest of kerala. Is this edge facility tower or place dependent???

in before post i saw that gprs mobile office speed in kerala is 110 kbps. i dont think its true . i never got such speeds using MO. the connection speed shown on taskbar of computer is the speed of the connection b/w computer and phone. Mine reads 42kbps. I was getting 66kbps using the same link in January. I think now many people know about this hack. So speeds are going down day by day.

An interesting thing to note i have used mobile office and spartans free airtel gprs trick to access net from pc.The max speed i got using MO is 45kbps tat too rarely . Using the spartan's method i am getting constant speed of 70 kbps. Why is this happening .Why is the free trick better than payed one
WHich handset u r all using . I am using nokia 6230 its edge compatible but dont know whether its getting edge speeds or not

I think you haven't configured the proxy setting in your apps. It works well on almost all except FTP(CuteFTP) & POP3(Outlook) apps. If anyone able to use FTP & POP3, please tell us how you succeed.

PROBLEM! Any one plz help. I am accessing net in my phone through airtel live spartans. I am getting a good connection speed and i can browse all sites and have crossed 600mb in my phone. But when i tried to download a file of 4mb size and above it says gateway does not allow u to download large files. It doesnt happens in mobile office. I changed different proxys and server address. Is there any way to do this. Any applications etc.

@ shivam we can make use of spartan's trick using nok s 40 phones also. Mine is nokia 6230 its s40 and its working perfectly fine and no need of two accounts to access the net.
@ alan i am not getting the e symbol its iust the good old 'G' .

rahul, dude am frm calicut am using 6230i but am not getting as much as speed u get.i usually get around 10 kbps then howcome u r getting a speed of 70 kbps ..in which city u r living .I used 6230 earlier but i never got a speed above 50 kbps.if u r server is EDGE enabled then it wil show E on nokia 6230 .but nok 6230i has a software bug and it wil show only G symbol even if the server is EDGE enabled.anyway goodluck dude....

Max i got was 45kbps tat too very rarely.avg speed was bout 23 kbps . It was worse than my good old dial up from bsnl . But in my opinion, you can't get more speed than the present as 6600 is a Class 6 GPRS phone. You may need a phone which has Class 10 GPRS to get more speed.
As I said before, I'm getting average speed of 45kbps.
Do you have Airtel Live activated?

OK. I think you have very low signal. As you have bluetooth, you have to keep your phone at the highest signal possible. One year ago, I was also hanging my phone in window to get more signal bcoz the signal was NIL on my room. But now, after so much of requests our good old Airtel finally placed a Base Station tower just 300meters away from my home.

I am too far from the tower but I have put my phone on the window and have managed to get a signal level one less than full. There is no much fluctuation in signal level. distance between PC and phone is 3 meters.
BTW, which will the cheap and best phone for PC-GPRS ? (one which can be used for spartan GPRS) ? Is bluetooth or direct datacable faster ?
sorry if i am going a bit out of topic... but where else we have such a great team of GPRS geeks .......
