If Maxthon works for you then IE should work for you. Maxthon is nothing but a wrapper for IE and uses the same settings as IE. I think you are missing something.
I am using IE7 Beta 1 now . Got fed up with Opera's rendering problems and Firefox's memory problem.
IE7 seems pretty stable and has given me no probs (atleast for now
)
Make sure you have checked "Use HTTP1.1 through proxy connections"

Now IE is working fine with Proxy. What I have done is in Tools->Internet Options->Connections tab, I selected the connection name and then clicked the settings. In that I entered proxy settings and now its working.

I am very sorry to say that Nokia 3120 doesn't have GPRS modem in it. So you can't browse GPRS in PC using your Nokia 3120. You can browse only in your phone.

I suggest u IE as it is good than others. Only the thing is you have to enter correct proxy settings. Opera is also okay but it has some page rendering problems.
I have both Opera mini(java version) and Opera Mobile Browser(v8.50) installed on my Nokia 6600. They are working perfect. You have to enter correct proxy settings.
If anyone having problems connecting Opera Symbian edition, go to settings and turn off "Mobile Accelerator" and it will work.

hi alan man i sold my 6600 coz i was not able take any sites other than airtel live..nw am using 6230 i hav mini opera but i cant connet i donno wht s the problem it shows an error has occure i have give airtel live as the setting for it.man also tell me wht is the accesspoint name and accesspoint that i have to give foe the gprs modem settings in settings -connectivity -gprs..anyone pls help....

I got a trick from other forum and it's working 100% in my 6600. Please see the quote (the person is from Himachal Pradesh):

make two airtel access points name them airtel live1 and 2
2)now using airtel one as default connection open airtel live in web.
3)wen connected open real player and select options and tone or video download
4)now go to settings and change access point to airtel live 2(remember that airtel 1 is still connected)
5)now go to web (where airtel one is connected)and enter any web address....
6)wala and it opens
7)now close that real player...........
and you are connected to free gprs

Currently I am accessing Internet via Airtel Online. I am able to hack Airtel Live in my handset only. Nokia 6600 doesn't dial second account as spartan said. We have to search for a extra initialization string to do that. You can try with 6230. First install "Nokia Modem options" program then go to the control panel and install the modem for ur phone. If you are using IVT Bluesoleil bt dongle, there is no need to install modem. To connect via Airtel Live, access point is "airtelfun.com" and to connect via Airtel Online, access point is "airtelwap.com". I think you should subscribe to Airtel online as it's just Rs.149/- for 90 days(it was there on dec05). Remember, you have to enter proxy address as 100.1.200.99 and port 8080 in every program that you want to connect. Yahoo Messenger is also working fine without any extra softwares. First try what Spartan said. If you are not able to dial to the second account.
By the way, tell us ur Airtel Circle

There is no way other than keep trying till you get other site. The best way is, set http://google.com/wml as your homepage and press 0. If it connects, you will see Google Page. Otherwise, it will quit automatically. Again press 0. In this way after trying 5-10 times, you will get access.

Something wrong with proxy 2. The apn should be airtelgprs. And you need only account and not a profile for 2nd one.

If you cannot dial *99***1# then there is something definitely wrong with the settings.
Try changing the setting "Bearrer" from "GPRS only" to "Data"

For all those who cannot dial the second account on your mobiles(and hence cannot use this method
), but are desperate to download something for FREE.
Try this , change your proxy address to 100.1.200.213 and port 8080 (80 also worked)
Try accessing any site.The page will load with some other site which has a collection of videos (.3gp and .mov)
You can find trailers of Lord of the rings, Harry Potter, Treasure Planet and so on .
You can use it on your mobile or your pc. Just change the proxy of your browser to 100.1.200.213.
Something is better than nothing

Dear Spartan,
There is no need to change proxy address in phone. Just enter http://100.1.200.213/ in your browser while you connected via 100.1.200.99 and the site will come(very fast).

I think now Airtel is charging Rs.12/- /day in Mumbai for MO. But here in Karnataka, its double. I have to pay 600pm ie. Rs.25/- /day. So It's better to use our free gprs.

Which other options you have in the "Data Call Type" field in your phone. I don't think you should use ISDn. Please post other options in that field and please make sure that Airtel Live homepage is opening properly in your phone.

actually i m sooooo much bored with my gprs i cant download any content frm there .. when i used to download it automatically deduct 15 or 50 rs frm my account within seconds. n airtel gprs service is not cheap ....... so i was seeking for some trick to tweak airtel prepaid gprs ......... hope so one day u both will find it ! n god bless u both !

I suggest you to subscribe Airtel Online(Rs.150/90days, call cc to confirm). I think you have same problem that I had before. In Nokia, we can't dial to the second account. Now I am able to get Data only because of Airtel Online. Otherwise, it would not be possible to me.
By the way, I'm shocked by seeing that you lost Rs.10-50. Does Airtel is cutting the balance? 2 days ago, I also lost 13 rupees. So I think someone is spying on Airtel GPRS servers and as soon as they find any high data transfer, they manually cut the balance. So we should be careful.
I'm still trying to find some more IP's using my another Nokia 3120(in that, port number is identified automatically). As soon as I find one, I will post it here. The range would be 100.1.200.1 to 100.1.201.999 It will take lot of time.
