Vodafone has announced that it has signed a multi-year contract to become McLaren’s title sponsor from January 2007.
The mobile phone giant will transfer its allegiance from Ferrari, which it has sponsored since 2002.
Vodafone's chief marketing officer Peter Bamford said: “We are excited about this new phase of involvement in motor racing.
“As title sponsor of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team it raises our association with Formula 1 to the ultimate level.
“The new agreement delivers a fantastic marketing platform.
“The associative rights we acquire as a result of this new sponsorship provide us with additional opportunities to continue to continue to raise brand awareness, build brand preference and drive revenue.”
McLaren boss Ron Dennis added: “This is only the third time [in] more than 30 years that the opportunity to become the team’s title sponsor has existed.
“The status of the brand and the level of activation in support of the sponsorship were key criteria for our choice of title sponsor and Vodafone over-delivers in all respects.
“In addition, as our agreement is long-term, this provides important stability within the team, allowing us to focus fully on our objective of winning races and championships together.
“We are delighted to welcome Vodafone to the team and look forward to many future successes.”
Neither party disclosed any financial details of the deal, but Vodafone's current association with Ferrari has been worth an estimated £23 million to the Italian team.

how can you say it aint, its like this huge red colon or whatever thryre called, its not exactly a nice symbol is it, and the red and white, I could swear the designers were pissed when they made it

well, i believe it is the team's policy that sponsors have to conform with the silver and black colour scheme, therefore we will likely see the voda logo in a classier silver/black scheme rather than ferrari's pinkish red colors.

I think McLaren's livery will remain silver and black, but with red Vodafone speech mark logos. In the earlier days of motorsport, Mercedes were known as the Silver Arrows, so as the McLaren engine partner, they will not want the colour scheme to change too much.
A certain tobacco company 'owns' the Ferrari livery and sub-lets advertising space to other sponsors - Before 1996 (I think), Ferrari used a darker shade of red

Long as they don't change the car colours then all good.. else I wonder if we can have have "branded" and "unbranded" vodafone cars
