Im finaly going to update to SP2 for windows xp. If your wondering y i hav'nt done it yet its becasue well i did but i had 2 reinstall windows and havnt bothered to di it again yet.

Question is will everything still work that same. Like all the setups iv done for lets say my interent conection and things like that. Will they all be the same and basicly work?

Thanks

as far as i know yes. i havent had any problems in doing it (a few times). all it adds is a firewall, some security updates and other updates so doesnt really mess around with your internet connection or programs. should be safe. some people reccomend backing up important work just incase but i never do and have been alright but its upto you. should go all smooth though

Hmm.. I had ordered an sp2 cd thru the ms website and they sent it out free.. Good option if you have a slow connection.

Just beware, I changed my boot screen and forgot to restore the orginal boot screen before updating to sp2. This caused my computer to be unusable, I couldn't open safe mode or repair wizard or anything What I ended up to do was to put a linux hard drive into My pc and by that way restore the boot screen on the hard disc with the damaged windows on it.

Just to warn you if you have modified windows anything

Thanks guys, i did it, all safe and good. Apart from it keeps asking me if i wanna keep blocking apps that use the internet, i think its the firewall

the first thing I did when I had installed SP2 was to disable the firewall because its crap. A picture that an esato member has posted before shows the firewall how it really is:

If you have a router then you probably have hardware inbuilt firewall so you don't need anything else but If you don't have a hardware firewall you can try sygate firewall pro I used it before I got hardware firewall and its quite nice...

i updated to SP2... well so the download link at MS said that... but my comp still says SP1

the easiest way to tell is if it only says windows xp on the boot screen or says what type of windows you have, eg pro. if it just said xp then you have sp2
