@jbm - I guess Lusavnro was pertaining to the story of the movie - Gladiator per se, where the King was killed by his own son and fell in love with his own sister and planned to kill the TOP general (Russell Crowe) as he knew his father has plans of putting Crowe in his (king) position when he dies . . . etc. It's really a nice movie, though it was OUTBESTED by Denzel Washington's - Training Day

I would say it fiction, but using actual events and people from history with a generous dose of artistic licence. And some inspiration from Ben-Hur / The Ten Commandments / Greatest Story Ever Told.
