Every time i move something to Macintosh HD mostly off the desktop i'm asked to authenticate and put in my password, it's annoying as i'm always dragging and dropping stuff into it. Any idea how i stop it from doing this as it never used too?

what is DO4 or do you mean 4OD? If it is 40D then you will need media player 10 plus with DRM blah blah so that wont work.
But to make anything you so called preferred player you will need to download the link firstly to that file eg pls from shoutcast it will download to your desktop or wherever, right click on it and say OPEN WITH and select windows media and then apply to all. So basically any PLS file that comes down know will open in windows media.
If the file is embedded into the browser then that as far as I am aware is not possible unless you dissociate the current player that its trying to open up in to not open that certain file.

Another question: I'm deciding between the 80 and 160 GB iPod Classic. The 160 would let me have all of my music with me in Apple Lossless format! But there are rumors that putting Lossless files on a HD-based iPod wears it out faster, due to the much larger file sizes. Any truth to this?

I am not aware of it impacting on the drive, but larger files do drain the battery more as the hard drive needs to spin alot more to write it to memory.
I am not sure if you are going to hear any difference on the ipod hardware after 256 AAC VBR, maybe easier if you have an external library to dump all your lossless files there and compress them down for the ipod.

I've just downloaded some rather large files and when i try to extract them there is no rar file so i ran all the par files and they all came up as correct and not needing repair. But there is still no rar file so i have no way of opening it as if i click one it just comes up with no files to extract.
Bearing in mind unison displayed 19 transfers as active but there was nothing in the transfer window so i had to force quick the application. Not sure what to do to get these working. Anybody got any idea what to try next or do i need to start all over again?

my imac wont connect to my Netgear wireless router. it sees it, i type in the Correct WEP key, but it comes up with the message
" there was an error joining the airport network "router name" .
yet my Macbook pro and iphone will connect,and so will my girlfriends macbook ,without any issues. the imac will connect, if i take the WEP key off,but i dont really wanna do that.
any ideas?

had a WPA2 key set up and this wouldn't connect for love nor money, changed to a WEP key et voila!

Well talk about even more stupid, I had to completely disable any wep or wpa as I cant connect to voip when its active. So now I have to tell the router to only allow specific mac addresses to access and I am also hiding the ssid.

Can your dvd player play divx? If yes, just burn the file on a CD or DVD as you normaly do with any other file, load it in to the player and act happy. If not, use Toast, cause it does a good job with these kind of things!

You probably better redownloading them in DVD format as conversion can take ages and also degrade the quality if you get it wrong. Lots of trial and error.

I can't seem to add anything in iCal i double click and it just says you cannot add events to a mail calendar. Have asked in the apple forums but not got a reply so thought i'd try here. It's the first time i have opened it so it's not like i have played around with the settings and mucked it up.

Picked up my iMac today!
Specced it with 2GB RAM, wireless everything and it's teh 20" 2.4Ghz model.
How do I go about using Time Machine? Can't really work it out as Macintosh HD isn't coming up on there..

um, basically do a fresh install. But when you are about to do it, go to finder and then disk utility.
Select your hc click format, then go to partition, slect 2 partition then make the size you want.
alternatively get ipartition or one of the programs:

just be carefull as you dont want to delete your data without some form of backup.
