well you'd be starting fresh, if you just continued, you'd be contuing where the problem and bad feelings left off.

four months is probably too long to count it as one stint anyway, especially since you both saw other people. you could always say "we've been together on and off for x months/years".

U both had a 4 month tea break. There will prolly be more tea breaks too,so enjoy ur tea,i bet ur gf did/will ;-)

I'd say it's the 14th month, or do as Gelfen says "on and off for x months/years".

I'm in the same situation with my lady, we've broken up a couple of times, the longest being 3 months out of the 3 years I've known her.
We both still say we've been together for 3 years though.

agree. After all, it's just a break really. If you are at work all day you tell everyone it's an 8 hour day, even if you don't get paid for lunch and it's only a seven hour workday.
Unless the time you are on a break for is equal to the previous total time you have had together, then you count it inclusive. If the total time you have been together is less than the length of the break period when you get back together, then you would say "together on and off". If there is more than a year between this time and the last time you were together, then you start counting from scratch.

i have to say i disagree with this. the 4 month break amounts to almost a third of the time you were together, so it's not really continuous. using that analogy, you don't say "i worked an 8 hour day" when you were only there for five and three-quarter hours. even forgetting it was a substantial period of time, the fact you both saw other people means it wasn't continuous IMHO.
anyhoo, however you choose to mark the time doesn't amount to a hill of beans. the important point is you are together now, and as long as you're both happy that's all that really matters.

fair enough gelfin
I agree my work analogy wasn't that accurate. What about if you had a separation in your marriage for a year but get back together, would your 25th anniversary actually be a 24th anniversary?
I think if two peeps have tried to move on from eachother but find themselves back together then it could be a sign that they never really stopped thinking about eachother in the first place.
Or it could be a sign that they miss having a guaranteed root

hahaha
you got it right the first time
and @gelfen, you are right, the time doesnt really matter. we were just thinking about it. we are both happy, thats what counts
