Hi
I have a T68i on O2. Is there any way I can access an ntlworld braodband e-mail address from my phone. I have tried but as there is no dial up number I cannot connect. Is it possible to use anothe dail up to pick up mail from ntl. ntlwordl has a webmail but is not availble from wap. Any help please

what you need are the POP mail settings for your ntl account, either call them or search their website for these settings, they are the same settings you would need to setup Microsoft Outlook to retrieve your email.

once you have this, check the o2 website to find out the dial up settings for WAP.

when you've got some of the info post again and we'll try filling int he blanks.

deal,
you may have to exchange mails with Edwardm on the UK thread, he's on Voda too, may be better at helping than me as as i'm on o2 & t-mobile

maybe unrelated but i know he had success using this different gateway address to download files larger than 3KB, you could give this a try:

to create a new wap profile:

wap services -> options -> wap profiles -> add profile

profile name = halebop
IP addr = 194.237.106.73

to set it as default:

wap services -> select profile

then choose halebop

Hi. I am having the same problem with sending. I've used the exact settings above and have managed to receive emails via my pop3 account, but whenever I send I get a FAILED message. I'm connecting via the O2 WAP GSM service. Any idea why send is failing?

Also, altho I got this working with the GSM service, I have GPRS enabled on my phone but that account doesn't seem to work at all with email - any idea why that might be?

Thanks in advance.

I initially had a problem sending mail via ntlworld, so I spoke to Orange wirefree services and they explained that ntl will not allow you to send through their smtp outgoing server when using GPRS. Orange gave me the IP address of their smtp outgoing server to replace smtp.ntlworld.com in the phone email settings. It works fine now. So I send mail via the Orange smtp server and receive via the pop3 ntlworld server. To connect using GSM I think you need to add a new data account to your phone (in the connect menu) and insert the ntl dial up number +448454550520 and your ntl user name and password. That also works fine for me, even using the ntl smtp server in the settings.

Yes, I guess adding an NTL dialup would sort it out - at the moment it's using the O2 WAP GSM dialup. If I wanted to keep this one, I guess I need to speak to O2 for their smtp server settings.

Ultimately however, I want to be doing this all via GPRS rather than GSM - and I've had no joy getting it working with the GPRS connection whatsoever.

After you've inserted the O2 smtp server IP address, the GPRS should work. I use GPRS for sending and receiving ntlworld mail, no problem.

It's a long shot, I Know, but you could try using the Orange IP address I use:

Outgoing server - 193.35.131.155

All other settings are as you would expect.

I hope you get it sorted.

I stumbled across this while searching for something else, it's the IP address for the O2 outgoing smtp server:

193.113.160.13

Awesome, that worked a treat! Can now send mail using GSM. Thanks mate.

Can't get GPRS working still, goes to Finding Server and seems to sit forever before timing out, something odd going on I think...

Thanks again.
