In India are so many regions and atleast one dish per state is outstanding. Tough to single out. Still the best is home made DOSAs and FILTERED COFFEE.

I'm quite glad this thread came up actually because I'm off to Goa for two weeks over christmas.

Anybody got any suggestions for any particularly good food / snacks / drinks I should look out for over there? From what I've read, the cuisine is quite diverse so I'd appreciate some suggestions

I like hot 'n' spicy stuff, the missus prefers milder stuff.

@cyco. Good time to be in goa. Try the local fare, particularly the goa sausage curry and chicken vindaloo. Also the pork sorpotel. If you like spicy food, you will love these dishes. Have fun and bon appetit. :-)

Thanks mrao, I'll look out for those

My perfect woman

couple of poached eggs on toast with several rashers of bacon (well done), mushrooms cooked with the bacon and a large portion of bubble and squeak washed down with a nice mug of tea

oooooooo! bacon, bacon butties are the business, with barbeque sauce, perfect hangover cure on a sunday

Posted by marlonski
mmmmm not sure about the bbq sauce, either ketchup or fruity depending on my mood and if hungover washed down with a double dose of resolve 'and' a mug of tea

baerbeque or garlic sauce from asda, that is yummy, never had fruit sauce before, may have to try that

Mine is definately Tournedos Rossini.

To anyone not familiar with this dish (although it is nothing new, and was probably a cliche already in the '90s) it comprises a Tournedos(i.e. the best part of the tenderloin (of beef)). To this, you add foie gras and truffles (in my opinion, preferably black). The sauce is made in different ways, according to the chef. For the sauce I prefer to add a small amount of Madeira, Cognac and Port to the pan which was used to cook the tournedos and foie gras, adding the truffles and some stock. Reduce the sauce quickly and add to the dish.

French toast for breakfast at the Byzantium Cafe on Ponsonby Rd.

(Sliced baguette dipped in egg/milk, toasted; topped with grapes, sliced orange and kiwifruit; drizled with maple syrup, sprinkled with icing sugar).

Can't be beaten in my opinion. My wife always get the Sweetcorn fritters with salsa and mesculun.
