Ok, so I tried transfering the file using a card reader which worked but I then find out the phone doesn't recognise aac files...
Thought k750's did??? Does it make a difference that it's now a W800 using DcVinci?

Still don't get as good a sound quality for nearly the same size file as when I use Disc2phone software...
e.g. file with Disc2phone was 1.4MB, sounding brilliant, and as m3a it was 1.3MB but sounded crap!
My advice = use Disc2phone and convert the bit rate to 64Kbps (or higher if u have bigger MSDuo) for decent sounding music.

All disc2phone does is convert the audio to the 'set' kbps rate. I can certainly tell you that there is certainly no difference in a 96kbps .m4a and a 128kbps .mp3, apart from the m4a being roughly about 1.5mb smaller each track

target, ya gotta get out of the disc2phone mindset. It ONLY supports MP3 that's why you can't use it to send an MP4 (aac) file to the phone.

disc2phone is only good if your mp3's have already been encoded at more than 128kbps (i personally wouldnt use more than 128 mp3s, waste of space) and you want them reduced to save space on your duo, then d2p can kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak. Of course, if you're ripping direct from an Audio CD, then d2p is also pretty nifty to get the tracks on your phone quickly.
However, if the tracks you want to transfer are already encoded at your desired bit rate, draggin n droppin using explorer is sooo much simpler and quicker. Seriously though try experiementing with aac or m4a's, you'll save a chunk of space on your card

I thought it did, as usually Microsoft have proven how stupid they can be.
You can get a mass storage synchroniser for itunes. It allows you to synch itunes tracks with a mass storage device ex: your phone.
or you can always just use itunes to organise your music, then copy the contents of the itunes folder to your mp3 folder on the mem stick.

Personally I dont really see why theres such need for a synchronization software, itunes, d2phone, wmplayer or whatever.
Ive allways found it much easier to simply use fileexplorer and copy/paste, or dragndrop my allready encoded mp4/aac or m4a/aac files, which are organised on my computer.
I use either DBpoweramp/Nero AAC codec or Itunes to convert or rip to mp4/m4a, but allways just copy the files manually through fileexplorer. So much easier and I dont have to worry about all these automated processes that very often gives different results than what you expect, and all that fiddling to make sure it synchronizes the right files to/from the device.

I agree numb, especially with regards to the K750. There is absolutely no reason to organise music the way itunes etc do (artist\album\trackname)
The W800 playlist is more useful if songs are in folders \mp3\artist\album\songname format, which enables playlist by artist or album, and more fluid playlist creation on the computer itself rather than the phone.
However even so, I still don't see it as that difficult to create a folder on the computer, put your chosen tracks in it, copy it to the phone and add that folder to a playlist. That's how I do it on the K750 and it's a piece of piss.
I also name all my songs artist-songname.mp4, so itunes organise music feature screws that system up.

All well and good using dBpowerAMP to convert, but the phone doesn't recognise AAC (mp4) files, only m3a... and the size difference between the m3a and the mp3 i have is negligable so I dont really see the point anymore.
If anyone can let me know exactly how I should be doing it to make a bigger difference I'll welcome it, but at the moment I'll stick to d2p i think (or just using explorer).
I would love to use nero etc, but they cost money and as a poor student I cant justify buying them, so it's freeware only for me...

Max, itunes is usfull even for k750 users, because it automatically organizes in folders artist - album - tracks, if you want to
and if you use itunesmyportable, you can also choose other type of folder structure, directly from itunes general library
too bad itunesmyportable isnŽt free...

Arez, agree that itunes is useful for some, but K750 doesn't read id tags of mp4 so it's necessary to have the artist name and song name both in the filename if you want to see both artist and songname in the mediaplayer scrolling display. It doesn't read the song info from the folder structure the way W800 does.
So you end up with songname.m4a in folder "artist".
Doesn't work for me, but I'm not dissin' the method since for many peeps it would save a lot of hassle. If I could get itunes to organise folders and song names like below, then I'd use it to make playlists as desired in itunes and just copy the resulting folders to the phone:
itunes music folder\playlistname\artistname-songname.m4a
That would be useful to me

when i had w800 firmware (i reverted to k750 firm, because of activity menu), i even made folder with playlist%playlist organization - this way in the "artist" sub menu of w800 mediaplayer, youŽd have playlist made entirely in your pc
iŽm really tempted to buy itunesmyportable, thereŽs nothing free that works like that...if i could find 6 people that wanted it, it would be about 6 euros for each...its only expensive if you buy just one licence

that's the jobbie.
You can also do a vbr encoding which is mind blowing quality even in the really complex parts of a music piece. abr codecs use more or less the same data throughput for the whole song, regardless of music complexity, which is why it's so common for song files to be great quality until the music really goes off, and then starts to break up and show signs of compression artifacts not evident in the rest of the song.
A vbr will have more consistant quality through the whole song. VBR isn't measured in bitrate as such, since the bitrate varies. I'm no expert but I recorded some tracks as vbr and even the lower ratings (60, 90) are way better than the abr tracks of 64 and 96Kbps, but ONLY in the more demanding sections of the track. But the files are twce the size!
Nevertheless, I am VERY tempted to rip all my music to vbr encoding. Of course for size reasons I would still use abr for the phone.

Yes (atleast they did on my K700, haven't tried on the K750 yet.)
I'm not sure exactly what abr is (it's not cbr - constant bitrate but I think it's similar). opps, just googled it - abr is a vbr which is heavily restricted in it's variability, so yes similar to cbr.

I use foobar it's good player, encoder, coverter and it has cddb look up for just single tracks to you can do everything in it i recommend it

Just bought a second K750 I gave my son, on a 6 months contract but unbranded (no perscription fee but 25$ pr.month minimum use) since he allreday use 25$ pr. month without contract theres no extra expense involved there, and then I got the K750 for only 50$ - nice bargain I think

you can put them straight into the mp3 folder. Only advantage to album and artist folder names is if you have a W800.
