Hi, I am just wondering if anyone knows whether you can remove or rename the name of the Service Provider (i.e Orange, AT&T wireless.....)on the top of the screen for Ericsson T68? Thx very much
Posted by mhorton
Sorry I have know idea, I don't think you can do that.
It would be really good if you could
Posted by jh67
Nope, cant do
According to an "insider", you wont be able to do this, not even with the new mms-software-upgrade.

i think this idea works only in nokia phones :-(

It would be great if we could change this, maybe in the next software version.

Since I have the same name as my network provider I see no reason to change it. =)

Howabout the colour?
The box shows all the txt in red, but its black on my phone.
The profiles dont change it and i haven't seen anything else that does either.

A previous post stated that a SIM editor was the only way to do it.

When youre able to download new themes you can change the color of the text, maybe not the "icons" showing when new SMS and so on, but the txt.
You can check it out on
I read somewhere that the red txt on the box just where a "fake pic"

It's easy - just change your name by deed-poll - I'm now called Orange

u can edit/change provider name but the information is on the sim card and not the fone. wat u need to do is edit the card card . tools needed r sim card software reader/writer and sim card reader itself

I would change my name but the problem is my network is called Virgin Mobile, any how I've discovered a great way of removing the network name, just hang about in an area with no signal and the name will dissapear?

"Logomanager" software is capable of changing Network provider Name on Nokia Phones. I tried it on T68, it won't work. Perhaps there is a similar third party software for
phones

Another thing about the network operator name: It seems that the name of the network operator is stored twice on the sim, one "long" version and one "short" version. And even though there is enough space on the display for the "long" name, Ericsson phones seem to choose the "short" version. As an example, two of the bigger network operators in Sweden are Telia and Comviq. They appear in an Ericsson phone as "S Telia" and "S IQ" respectively, I think the "S" stands for Sweden, while the very same sim cards, when put in a Nokia phone, show "Telia Mobiltel" and "Comviq". I don't think you can do anything about this either.

I know a friend of mine changed the name of his sim by doing something to his card in the computer. It sounded pretty difficult though, I don't remember which phone it was....

I should say that the provider name is not on the sim but on the phone.
The thing is that the phone gets which provider you are on, but with a number (ej. 201-14). The thing is that the phone has got a name related to this code, so displays the name.
There is no information about the providers name on the sim. You can check that on nokia phones.

This cannot be true because when my provider had changed name i asked my service center and they told of that i could change it only by editing my sim.so my t28 which was very old couldnt have the new name in it

No idea, but I doubt it's written on the SIM Card, due to some possible reasons for my theory:
1. When you’re in an area that has no reception, the phone says "NO NETWORK"
2. When you’re out of your phones provider area, it says "SOS CALLS ONLY" (LAX Airport for example), I've even seen it say "Emergency Calls only" in some areas in California, even switches to "911 only".
This leads me to believe that the local area provider sends some sort of message to your phone (using your SIM card as confirmation), and possibly this maybe editable. Someone do an experiment on this

The serive provider name can be both from the SIM-card and from the phone....
If the operator has a name on the sim card this is the name that will be shown when you are in your home network. But if there is no name on the SIM card the operator name in the phone will be used... Actually it is more complicated than this but here are the general guidelines...

Yes, I have always wondered which network provider they use in the phone when the Ericsson salses department take the photos of their new phones. I have never seen "WORLD" in the display of a real phone.
This might be an idea for a new background picture...
Posted by decoy7
i have WORLD in the display of my phone, asked someone who worked at my service provider to get it written in for me...just hope it doesn't dissappear when they switch everyone to T-Mobile in the next few weeks...have to take a picture of it before all you sceptics start trash talking i suppose...brb with that.
Posted by decoy7
ok, ive just taken 2 pictures of a T28 & T68 with 'WORLD' replacing the service provider...where can i upload them? or who should i send to...only 4/5 KB's in size.
Posted by Deltayoda
Would love to see it and do it myself!
Any information on how he pulled it off?

So how?
Posted by decoy7
can't tell you how, can only say my cousin used to work for my service provider and one day asked me if i wanted to change the sp logo with a word of my own.
i opted for WORLD as i just got the T28 and saw it written on the box in place of the sp...now it's permanently on my phone whenever i put the simcard in different phones.
Posted by jammods
Pictures are there decoy, am guessing but it must be possible to leave it blank if you can change the wording, any one out there work for an sp? - Orange I need your help.
Posted by oneeyejack
doesn't look like you can type something in. the letters of the word "WORLD" look all crooked. i think what was done was that he found the letters somewhere and just cut and pasted them into the program of the phone.
why else would they letter be crooked? any ideas?
Posted by decoy7
sceptices are inevitable as most people talk sh** so i probably wouldnt believe it myself.
i've posted some additional pics...it's 5:16PM in London now...my clock was 5PM and just after in the photo's.
crooked letters are a result of my webcam...if you want a high resolution pic i can get geeky and post one of those...any requests for background pic?

I don't think the sp info is saved on the card
My friend was network called One2One then she lost her t68. So she got a new sim and a new t68 where it also showed one2one. Fewdays later it suddenly changed to T-Mobile (no idea what happened o the network)

Altering the Service Provider to whatever you want is in the SIM card itself and not the T68 phone. I bought this program and sim card reader off ebay for $10 and it lets you alter some of the settings including service provider. Makes it easier to add/edit contacts using your own computer keyboard quickly.
I don't know this seller but it looks like the same product.

The service providers name isnt stored in the sim or the phone its sent to the sim via the network your using which is why if u visit another country it will display the service providers name your using. U can replace it via the phone but it wont follow through to your new phone and thats how the nokia ones do it. Do u think your service providers would let u do that im sure they wouldnt.
Posted by jamojdm
Dont u guys think that the like of Ericsson and Nokia have there own test networks installed to test there phones on? Seeing as they make phones and offer solutions for networks doesn't seem very supprising if that is so.
Therefore I guess the photos will be taken of the phones on there own networks.

You guys really want to remove the name of your service provider from the display of your phone? No problem....
I've found a solution, but in order for it 2 work u need 2 things:
FIRST: Your background picture must be a picture where the area around the sp-name must be of only one colour. For instance the original SE background with the green ball in the middle. The area around the SP-name is white.
SECOND: You need to transfer a layout, for instance "Classical", to your computer. Then you edit the file classical.xml and change the line:
change to:
(FFFFFF is the colorcode for white...)
Now the outline of you SP-name will also become white. And since the color of the SP-name already is white, the whole SP-name will disappear!!
Of course, this only works if the area around the SP-name is white. If it's for instance red, then you need to change the color code (both for font color and outline color) to red.
I hope you guys understood this explanation.
I've tried doing this. But I'm not an expert in editing the layout files. First I rename the *.thm to a *.tar file and then I extract the file. After I'm done editing the file I have to compress the file to *.tar again and rename it to *.thm. But the problem is that the programs I've used to do this compresses the files first to *zip and then converts them to *.tar. So when I send the file back to my cell it says that the file doesn't work...?
I'm sure my idea works, but I need someone who've successfully been able to edit a layout and tranfered it back to the phone and seen the layout work. So if there are any of you out there, please contact me!!
2 all you others, Good Luck!

Armin,
How did you know: "(FFFFFF is the colorcode for white...)", would you happen to know where i can get the complete codes for all 256 colors?
Appreciate any help
Posted by roadrunner
Armin:
don't untar the file, just open it in a hex editor if you only want to change some colors.
Posted by Armin
Oh, you mean like the edit-command in DOS or notepad or Wordpad?
If that's what you mean, it doesnt work, I've tried?
I cant seem to figure out what is the problem..!!
Or maybe you know of another hex editor...?

Can the sim card editor be used in a way to allow the display of operator logos on a sim that has it blocked? for nokia phones...

Ok I have a question um I just inserted my friends sim in my t68 and when it is in english it reads his original operator name and when I change to chinese it reads another name they go by um wierd.!

Facts:
YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE SP NAME
It is broadcasted when you connect to the service, it is not stored in the phone, it is not stored in the SIM.
However,
with the T68i or T68m (with MMS software upgrade) you can change the theme colour settings, and therefore you could change the title (desktop text) colours to match those of a single colour background - thus giving the effect of no SP-name on screen - cheating I know, but it's the only way.
Posted by decoy7
changed mine as stated a short while back., YOU cant change yours, doesnt apply to everyone mate.
Posted by Funky-Fish
Well, it seems that here is Israel the SP is much much more retarted...cause i have the SP name TWICE!!! once : instead the word "WORLD" i have "Orange" and for the second time i have it writen one line down with : "IL Orange" errrr!!!
ok, so lets not be gready, i just want to get rid of the second line where it shows : "IL Orange" , cause i whenever i put pics as my background, it cover about a half of it!!!!
for an example ive uploaded a picture of what im talking about so you could understand me better : http://www.pbase.com/image/2119337
thnx in advance.

i don't even think it's network based. it's confusing. if it is not stored on the phone, how come on my NOKIAS, u can change sims and still have the LOGO that i created. weRd! - one!
Posted by Deltayoda
Funky-Fish, that sucks, I would complain to the provider.
Posted by Funky-Fish
Well, i tried to, but they told me that that second line is "writen" in the SIM card as well......
if ill buy the SIM crad editor kit, do you think it will be posible to remove it?
