Here in Turkey one of our GSM operators which is called Aria has anounced that they have a new value added service(VAS).They are installing a new program if your phone has Java supported.(Their example is Nokia 7650) Then you can watch Tv with your 7650 over GPRS.And also they said they are first in Europe. What do you think, you have this service earlier? (They showed it in Cebit Eurasia 2002 Istanbul)

this can be done with SE P800 too.

but there are not many Java programs for P800 yet, and i think there will be not enough applicaitons yet after it's launched.

Do you think that Telia is slow? Here in Israel the most advances GSM phone is Nokia 3330... We even don't have the T68 yet! The operators here are so lame.. A GPRS network has just been opend here.. and you are complaining about MMS...

I watched it in the fair,it was really good.I didnt asked the bandwith issue after seeing it can be done

i think the bandwiht will be enough because its for a smaller screen, watching tv on your pc needs more because its a bigger screen.

wow!that's really cool!!!So it means that if your fone is not java enabled, (mine is t68mc upgraded to t68ic) I can't avail of that service if ever its offered here in my country?

I almost forgot, we have MMS here!

Posted by burak302
kenski, sorry you cant. You need a java supported phone as you mentioned.

It's not exactly working like that at the time. They are sending you 2-3 minute video by MMS. For example your team has scored a goal, it comes to your T68i or Nokia 7650 with a MMS message.

Network operators and Mobile companies are running after the two Turkish guys who has developed this service. It's the first video stream applicaiton for 2G mobiles.

Try to go to www.emblaze.com, I have worked with them, what they do they use GPRS to send video over the GSM network, its not using MMS, but using wap, you can watch 2 min. videos, as said here you can watch the football goals, music video clips, etc..., they have started tests in Italy and Portugal with Vodafone, They have an agreement with Samsung for them to develop the phones with this support, and it can be used with Java, so it will work in the new java compatible phone.

I have seen it working in a Samsung Prototype, Compaq Ipaq with a compatible phone and a Nokia 9210.

Hey can i view html pages on nokia 7650 instead of wap?

It is not MMS Twilight, they compress and convert TV frequencies to different format and send it to the phone. With the special java software phone re-converts it to its original format and then you watch.

7650 is a java phone. P800 has java too.
SL45 no java. SL45i with java.
SL45 with 9mb flash convertion = SL45i

So I think this is a software matter. With regards with P800 which has a lot of memory anything is possible. About the application software, the phone is not out yet so who will be interested in doing the software. Only SE and partners (who I think who owns P800) has the application. But for a geek who wants to develop java software for this superb phone, where to test the software. Wait and see, after two months of releasing the unit, software developers will come out with something.

Why would you watch TV via GPRS???? Unless you've got a MAJOR expense account... you're provider will be charging you an arm and a leg to watch a show that you can get for free using a cheap Casio pocket TV with better quality! MMS is fine... even surfing the net is fine... but considering that providers are charging per KB, they'd LOVE it if we started doing broadband work over the airwaves!

gprs charges depends on the network that you are on...
some charge by the kb (like mine ), some charge by the mb while others are charging a flat fee for unlimited usage!!!

The network Aria we're talking about has a very cheap GPRS service(per kb usage not unlimited) Maybe you are right,i think it is a matter of personal choices.
