Hi guys,
just wondering if anyone is using an iMac here, (g5, new shape). Because I'm thinking of getting one, and just want someones opinion on it!
cheers!
Do you find it quite large? (is one of my main q's)

I don't own one but have used them quite a bit.
What do you mean by large?
The whole computer is behind the screen and is less than 2" thick! So although the screen may be a bit larger than a flat panel display, remember that thats the whole computer - there's no separate box for the CPU... no deskspace used up!

@chazzer3 go to the South African mobile forum and chat to amawanqa, he's a mac lover. He would deifinitely help you......

Once you go mac you never go back to (to windows) the imac g5 is the bomb i dont own one i have a powerbook.
But the imac is damn sexy, no wires, just the screen, your mouse and keyboard.
Faberlous baby!!!

i own one.
It's easy to upgrade or change components, it does get slightly loud if it gets hot (which is not often)
you need to upgrade ram for sure.
It's a beatiful system.

the thing with macs and linux for that matter is there is not that much software avalible for them compared to windows, i mean to get things done you need to have a wondows computer as thats what most people develope for, for example, i downgraded my psp today but cus the program is only developed for windows, people with macs and linus cannot do it, thats the main turn off for me, the way i see it is windows is the better choice, fair enough people also make virus mainly for it and it messes up alot more but its better as a whole.

you can get tonnes of software for mac if you look for it.

@ jagger2k
What are you talking about? You can downgrade your PSP using a Mac just as easily as with a Windows PC.
The PSP downgrader is just a bunch of files you copy to the PSP via USB, which can be done on a Mac in the same way as a PC.
I've never had a problem with a lack of software for my Mac. There's software that allows me to do 99.999999999% of everything I want to do.
The only thing I ever needed a Windows PC for was upgrading the firmware in my phone. That's just one thing out of hundreds I use my Mac for.

Thanks for your comments guys.
I'm really considering finally making the switch, but I think I might wait for the new intel chipset.... do you think this is a good idea or not?
And by big, I meant, do you think that it would be quite large to look at, (17"), from only a foot and a half away?
Thanks alot guys, any other comments you have, please let me know!
Software doesn't worry me too much. Also, does anyone use any 'virtual PC' software? how slow is it?
Thanks alot guys, and anything else you have to say about apples please let me know!

Virtual PC is 'usable'. Its not really speedy but is ok for occasional use. We use it at work occasionally and it does its job.
Should be better on a G5 iMac though as all our Macs are G4's

I own a Pc and a Power Mac G5 and i must say alltho i am a Win Fan Boi imust disagree with Jag and agree with Jools, i rarely come accross a siutuation that i can do on a pc that i cant on my mac, if there is a pc programme i like there is almost always a viable option on the mac platform.
Go for it i say, but keep that old pc around just in case

I will always have my laptop, that I use at the moment, which still is really fast and can handle everything, like games, (eg: GTA:SA and other high end things), and incase I need a portable option. So if something really awkward comes up, I'll always have my laptop.
Thanks for your opinions, and is there anything else I should know about?

The bloody keyboards!
Ive had 3 dud ones in the past 4 months, apart from that no others

You wont regret the switch, i can find everything i need for my powerbook, only thing i have had a problem with is gaining access to a server using various ftp clients.
And tbh i probably just didnt have the right settings
I still use my pc occasionally but if i ever wanted to upgrade my desktop it would be mac all they way

can u use total multi server to debrand ur phone on macs?
Posted by Jools
There's no Mac client for TMS, and I've never tried doing it through Virtual PC however, so it may work.
Anyway, de-branding a phone is something a tiny, tiny minority of people would need to do, possibly once in the lifetime of their phone, so it certainly wouldn't be a reason to not buy a Mac! There's plenty of people with Windows PCs who could help out with that...
