The U.S. answer to the K750 (Cingular)

I was hoping that the K750 would be available to the U.S. with an 850 band. Instead a Motorola with a VGA cam and 100 song capacity, is being pushed by Cingular.

Grrrrrr......

Why dont you just get the W800i ? it is coming to the US, am i correct ?

Posted by REO
The problem is with the 850 band. I will lose signal in most places, as my provider is predominantly using a 850 band.

sorry m8 that motorola is crap! yes it ma hold itunes but hey i dont think it has expandable memory if im correct

Posted by etaab
I understand that, but i thought the W800i was being customed especially for the US bands..

OR am i completely wrong..

The W600 has 850 band , however I need expandable memory as in the K750 and W800.

Ahhhhhh....... Grrrr..........

So i take it the W800i does not support the 850 band in the US ?

Ive just looked on the SE USA website, and it said the W800i supports the same bands as normal. Strange they didnt include the 850.

You could always try a different operator that supports other bands..

@etaab

Certain providers here, such as T-Mobile support 1900 only.

Cingular has it, however it is set up in a way where it is first filtered through the 850 band rendering a 1900 only, useless in most areas.

So, why would SE with their cell phone wizardry release a phone only capable of using limited bands..

Posted by REO
I just got a great deal a few months ago. The catch was signing into a 2 year contract. I have 5 phones on this contract. It would cost $200.00 in penalties, for each phone dropped from the plan.

I'm stuck............

Crazy cell phone market in the US then huh !

Over in the UK its far simpler, and the customer appears to have more choice.

Posted by REO
Most of the Motorola phones are Quad bands 850/900/1900/1800.

I don't understand why SE doesn't build quad band phones.

@etaab Yes indeed..... you folks have so much to choose from, so many options and models. And better yet... it's just simpler.

Maybe its because the 850 band is barely used by anyone.. ?

@etaab

All studies here have shown that it is the best signal, as it goes through walls, buildings, basements, ect. I have had issues in terms of signals with other providers. I must say, since having 850, I don't experience dropped calls nor speech break up. Honestly, it is almost perfect. I guess that's the trade off.

Here we go again. There are really only two real GSM bands. 900/1800. Those bands are available in multiple countries. While the 1900 band is predominantely us

@Residentevil

True....1900 is predominantly U.S. However, Cingular has gone the 850 route, limiting 1900 considerably.

The way the US does their phones is very different than the way any other country does. from the way they have the plans, and what you get, to the way the bands are.
with cingular using the 850 band, it actually seems alot better than anyone other provider around here using the 1900 band...
i know my post has no point, im just saying, i have noticed from past experiences, the US always does things different... and more complicated

the ROKR is the biggest turd of a phone that has come out of cingular. im surpised apple agreed to associate themselves with this phone.

1. widely panned by critics for its extremely slow interface
2. even moto fanboys criticise this phone for being slow and buggy.
3. this is a recycled 2year old phone (E398). even the E398 is way better.
4. crippled by a 100 song limitation. what good is having a 512mb tflash card?
5. many reported returns because of extreme lag when running itunes (on phone)
6. 512mb is the largest tflash card in production so far.

*buying this phone would be a HUGE mistake. people are better off buying an E398 and activating the 850mhz freq.

Actually it's very simple: years ago the US implemented available wireless technologies investing tens of millions of dollars thru the years on infrastructure.Most of the phones r still analogic (tdma for example) and still strugling for profit.Implementing gsm was costly,it is not widely implemented and still strugling to get thru as cdma conquered the US years ago.Don't know why they use 1900mhz and why they implemented the ankward 850 mhz. They r limiting their chances OR this is a shrewd business move-no1 makes 850 mhz phones except for Motorola and companies like Cingular,operators i mean.
