Hutch is charging 10paise/10kb of data download...
And 3bucks/mms from 1st september...
The charges really suck...
It forced me to deactivate my GPRS service...

Posted by c_vignesh
AirTel charges Rs.5/- per MMS and for GPRS Rs.399/- pm for 500 MB and for further MB ...Rs.5/ per MB

Posted by whizkidd
@vignesh, in which circle? I pay 150 bucks for unlimited usage on airtel...

Posted by mrao
So do I....199/- for unlimited web usage on Airtel in Mumbai circle

Posted by Sukhdeep Singh Kohli
Bloody a*****es charge 600 here. But AirTel live compensates for the greed.

Posted by c_vignesh
I am in TamilNadu circle...i have 600 p.m for unlimited...but 4 new users 400 rs. for 500 m and 600 rs for 1 gb....

One more help guys..they say they gave activated EDGE in my area ..how can i find out...my friend uses a nokia 6681..is there a special signal for EDGE

Posted by private
I too have deactivated my Gprs for the same reason.

Posted by Ayush
More sickening is their charging strategy is too erratic! They deducted 507rs from my ac suddenly! They say i sent 170 msgs. Not possible.

@mrao and @ whiz, u guys are damn lucky!

Posted by whizkidd
orange ===>

Posted by nitesh
Wasup guys. I pay 99rs free mms and unlimited waping.. @john ab.. are you manish?!..

Posted by Evil Eye
@whiz @nitesh yup.

Posted by Abhay
people world over GPRS connections are charged on volume of data
this was bound 2 happen accept it

and v shud hve xpected it coz hutch/orange said there charges were promotional

Posted by mrao
@manish....does this mean we will possibly have to bear with less nonsense threads...

Posted by govigov

I Think these indian operators have a unique modus-operandi. First they charge peanuts for services like these (even free sometimes!) and once people get dependent on them and starts using these features heavily, they start charging heavily! Good tactic hutch!

Posted by Evil Eye
@mrao ya, maybe. Btw whats the speed of ur web connection? @whizz ya they tear customers' hearts to pieces.

Posted by mrao
Around 8 to 10 KBps...which is better than standard dialup, and definitely worth a flat 199 rs per month

Posted by Evil Eye
@mrao thats quite good. But why are others charged 600 for full web connection? And u just 200?

Posted by mrao
others are not in mumbai circle i am

Posted by Abhay
i agree that Hutch is being really cruel by charging like this. But what can v do about it? its therefore a good idea not 2 get hooked on 2 theese services. this is a warning for 3G though. 3G maybe launched at a throw away price and thn made expensive. We should be ready that time

hmmm... U are right. Btw when will 3g technology launch in india? I reckon hutch will release it at much expensive rate...

Posted by mrao
And why do you reckon so, manish? I mean, what is the basis of your assumptions that
1) Hutch will be the 1st to launch 3g services
2) It will be very expensive

i didnt say hutch will be the fist to launch 3g services. And if hutch launches it, i think it will be more expensive coz 3g network isnt that easy to launch...

Posted by mrao
Okay...i take back question 1... i agree that launching 3g is an equally exensive process for any 2g provider....but how are you assuming that 3g on Hutch would be more expensive than 3g on another network???

i didnt say that it will be more expensive than any other network. I just meant to say that it wont be quite affordable. Hope u get my point. Btw do u know when 3g launced in India? Thanks!

Posted by whizkidd
i am not interested in 3g..hope airtel won't go to payper use thingy..i don't mind if they charge more ....say 400 or 500 per month...

Posted by mrao
lol...nope...i have no clue as to even what 3g is

Posted by mrao

Wm- Kindly edit your post off the incorrigible language. > > > > > > > > I am still with Orange and use it sensibly (most of the time) > > > > > > > > > > P.S. ever heard heard of the phrase Freedom of Choice ? But please excuse us the profanity..

Posted by brix25
LOL @ sailaab...In South Africa we pay on average (depending on your provider) US30 cents per Megabyte. You could even get cheaper rates if you're on a data plan from either MTN or Vodacom.

Posted by sailaab
@Brix- Thats fair enuf. With Organe/ Hutch in India we are paying about the same (taxes incl.) .. however the ire and anguish you see here is coz its taken for granted to get stuff free/ cheap. I used Orange's promo offer for over two and half years that allowed 'limited' ( certain wap sites going against Orange/ Govt policy) wap access with no d/load restriction at a fixed rate, lil over USD 1 !! Now ofcourse using as much by paying 7-8 times that amount. Nobody has a Gun to their head, to use XYZs service

Posted by mrao
@sai, well spoken. Most people had taken for granted that operators would not charge on basis of data volumes. Mind you, hutch as well as airtel have always presented their unlimited plans as *promotional*. I wouldn't be surprised if airtel announces a change in gprs tariffs soon.

I pay 99/- p.m. for unlimited usage for airtel mobile office. Mms is charged at rs. 3/- per mms.

We would like to know more about this...

Sir Manish (aka John A aka Evil Eye), since its an Orange defamation thread, why bother? But Yes, Orange has made its mind to do a soft launch. But having used their "EDGE tv", I've my doubts how effective it will be. >> P.S. > You mind if I share a lil secret wid ya? For my last two bills Orange HAS REVERSED surfing charges (they consider as d/loads, only the chargable stuff frm sites like mauj etc.) SO IT IS STILL, JUST A LIL OVER A DOLLAR FOR WAP ACCESS FOR POST PAY ACCOUNTS !! Thank You Very Much ! !
