well....just a thought
any ideas of entering the menu without touching the joystick??
choosing a function or icons from inside the menu is easy by pressing the keypad no. corresponding to the functions on the menu. But let's say if we are in standby mode and want to get into the menu system...er...any idea how?might be useful if the joystick breaks off one day since it's made of plastic
And another thing is that our joystick counter wont add up so fast.
Mine was only 50,000 before playing Q,and right after i finish all 60 levels in 1 afternoon..woosh...it became 110,000....makes me feel my T68i had aged
p/s:i like playing games with the joystick rather than using the keypads....hehe

i cant see the joystick randomly breaking off after youve used it for like a month!
if it does.. just take it to
"OI MY JOYSTICK BROKE OFF...FIX IT!"
Posted by veon18
haha...yeap..if it breaks off after just a mere 150,000 times of clicking it..i'll definitely go complain
and nope...mine is definitely in good condition, just figuring out a way to enter menu without involving the joystick so that the counter wont add up so fast and just in case....in the future if the joystick does break off

this may sound kind of dumn but where is the joystick counter??

press >*<<*<*
> joystick to the right
< joystick to the left
* is the key at the left bottom of your keypad
go to the 'service test' and it's right at the bottom

I avoid the joystick as much as I possibly can by using the number keys (shortcuts) and volume button to slide up and down through menus.
Posted by decoy7
i avoid the joystick by not using my phone, aside from that i have 2 68's, one for joystick abuse and free wap courtesy of Genie/o2...the other one i keep protected cause i'm sad like that.
Posted by decoy7
...when i go to bed i protect the special one by putting it in a cushioned box...does anyone else do this?
Posted by captainsm
Hey Decoy ! That is just weird man !
Posted by evoke
Yeah but i lock mine in a under the floorboards safe after i've stashed it in my box! ;-) You can never be to carefull! ;-) Ed

I put mind into plastic bag and suspend it on the rope into wc. So that nobody can steal or break it.
Posted by ferrarista44
putting on the gray belt clip with the ict-13 also protects the joystick.

hmm as for me i put mine in a personal vault ... you can nv know what is gona happen next ..
Posted by 619
I protect my joystick by using my t39 n seldom close the flp to minimize the flip count

I take mine T68 m/i everyday to the bank!...........

I got a save-room installed in my house after sept 11. 10cm steel walls. That should work.
Posted by jnonhoffzieg
I returned my new T68m 3 times before I was satisfied with screen uniformity, contrast, backlights, slider and joystick feel. Each phone is different... nothing like seeing 11 on the joystick counter hehe
Posted by Eric's Son
....I got a good idea...
Don't use the phone at all, put it in a glass cabinet and marvel at it's beauty....
Come on mate, just use it like it's intended and designed to be used
Posted by mrbunglez
my joystick has like only 21000+ moves and its already broken!!! DAMMIT!!! whenever i move it up, it gets bloody stuck and it just keeps scrolling everything up.. till i nudge it back again... argh... this is bloody pissin me off!!
and my number 4 key is not responding unless i give it a hard press... ARGH!!!
Posted by veon18
wow..then you should really go to your local SE service centre and asked for warranty coverage on your broken joystick
it's lucky that u still have a small remnant piece of joystick there for you to scroll, if the joystick completely breaks,i really wonder how to get to the menus?
Posted by sneakabeata
I guess you could still get into the menu coz you'd still be able to press down. Would be well fiddly though and a right royal pain in the arse. Would drive me mad definitely...

what is the joy stick counter for and how long is the stick supposed to last
Posted by rudeboymcc
mine's nearly on 120000. and it works fine. all i've done to it is cleaned it. judst get a t06 screw driver and open it up, and clean the whole phone.
if a phone's brokenb that's the first thing you should do, although it voids warranty, if you open it carefully there's no sign that you'vve touched it.

This is madness we r all worring about r phones and if they r goin to break 6-7 months down the line. i have a question for u, in the warranty it says general wear and tear is not included (obviously) but wot if ur joystick breaks after 7 months. Would u call this a fault in the phone cos they havent designed it gud enough to last more than 12 months or wud u call it general wear and tear???????????
Oh i have had my tasty T68i 2 weeks and it is on 17800
How long has everyone else had theres and how many moves has ur joystick had?????
Posted by veon18
I had mine like for about 3 months, not a heavy mobile phone user
my joystick counter now is almost 150,000
i think u would have guessed why that much on just an average user.
Try the game Q and when u have finished the whole game,it will add around 40-50,000 counts, unless u avoid the joystick and go for the 2,4,6,8 keys
anyway Q is a nice game, which i think had already been brought up by another member
BTW,i don't think disassembling your T68i yourself is a good idea if it's under warranty, should just carry it to the nearest centre for free servicing and it will take only a short while(15 mins for servicing at my nearest local SE centre)

ferrarista, can't access the link you posted...
Posted by jnonhoffzieg
waddie, copy and paste the link and it will work...
Posted by Eleventy7
Surely even if ur joystick broke off you'd still be able to press the remains of inwards, thus you can still access the menus
Posted by paulvince
my joystick count is around 330,000. the left and down of my joystick is unresponsive. will SE cover the repair if it is still under warranty?
Posted by maxel
my joystick counter is around 160,000 luckly its still working. Does the joystick counter has its limitations ? Until what number ? I think SE wont make a cellphone that is good for 1 year. I will go back to NOKIA if that rumor is true:-(
Posted by hbn12
My joystickcounter is 671000 stil working
Posted by maddav
324380 exactly, and my phone still works fine, and yes i counted the moves needed to post this message from my phone!

@paulvince
yes. as long as it's in warranty

in standby mode, you really need to press the joystick (just once) to enter the menu...now once you're in the menu area, you can enter numbers via keypads corresponding to the number on the menus
Posted by hykersan03
Mine is 1049186 and stil workng perfectly

sorry guys, but i use my CHA 10 for my T68m and T39m. less joystick/flip count
Posted by Erwin777
I suggest to all of u to get a cha-10 chatboard from me!! ALL BNEW. jUSt pm me if ur interestèd
Posted by buds
hahayyy... i just realized its pointless to keep myself in using the joystick to save from counts... if i wont use the joystick better not use the phone altogether...there's no point in worrying about the joystick count...we'll go nuts or ill even
before even the joystick reaches million count...
Posted by doctabako
This is an old trick and it only works for wap browsing. Press the options button for 2 seconds while on standby mode and you will automatically be connected to your predefined wap homepage. Kinda lame but saves joystick moves.:-)

Hi I have a solution.
I had a problem with my t630 joystick to. It did not respond at all loads of times.
Well I ran to the store bought WD40 (loads of other stuff you can use that to like crackling volume controls.).
You open your phone:
this is dutch put it contains excelent pistures http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/942139
the top is the hardest to open.
With a screw driver you just lift it up a bit. Now SLIDE the top of.
once you know it is easy.
For the rest remove the keyboard and the joystick button. Now drop a couple of drops onto your joystick and press and play with it for a bit so the WD40 can sink in. Clean up all the mess on the side so that it is good and dry.
After 20 minutes put back together your phone again and for me it worked like a charm again. Like it was new.
PLease note that I am not responsible for any broken phones trying this out. I think it is safe and for me it worked perfectly. But be carefull with spilling wd40 as it is conductive. Also do not USE the CAN spray. Spray a bit on a stick so you can make small drops and put that on the joystick....
Good luck....

My Joystick has 356630 moves and its working great !
Posted by Firefreak
I don't have the counter in the service menu... R1L EU4 firmware...
Posted by evinco
Firefreak, I believe the joystick counter was only on the T68i (and maybe some later models, but definitely not the K750i).
My joystick is already becoming unresponsive
Posted by victorh017
Mmm, avoiding the joystick doesn't seem like a sane solution to me. Why would someone want to use a device "half-way"
Do joysticks really break that often?
I have never had a bad experience with any of my previous SE cell phones.
I'm just gonna enjoy the joystick of my K750 without all this paranoia!!!

just incase the remo who wanted to get into the menu without using the stick still hasn't worked it out - assign menu to the right shortcut key!
