month old ish, and already the joystick is becoming unresponsive, the enter button hardly works anymore.

bit annoying because my only option is to get it sent for repair and that leaves me phoneless.

stupid joystick and all its stupid stupidness and such.

surely a month is far too short a period for it to start failing?

Posted by Oogamous
hmm... 2 months 2 weeks old and going strong... so far i find it's an excellent joystick... responds everytime... Hope it lasts that way for atleast an year....

It all depends on the usage, the phones that I have with joysticks(T630, K700i, T68i) are all useless, they didn't even last six months. With my K750 I'm being extremely careful not to ruin it. I think the S700i has the best design keypad, only problem is to send a text or dial a number you have to open the flip. I think SE should definitely get rid of the joystick and change it to individual buttons on their future releases.

i know the jostick is usage dependant, but i can't possibly have used it so much so that it equivaltes to about 6 months to a years usage. pity really because the phone is ace.

i would claim on the insurance but i'd have to pay the excess.

as i do work in a major phone dealer i'm sure i could sort something out, but why should i , you know?

My K700 joystick started getting hacked out about three months ago (that's after about 9 months use). It still works, but is getting to the point where you have to be really precise with it. But the joystick on the k700 was never 100% even from new. It's always been a little unresponsive.

The K750 however is really good, way better than my K700 was when it was new, so I'm hoping my useage isnt too harsh and that the K750 will last atleast a year.

on my k700 and joystick was F@#ked after like 6 months..

i sent it back and got it fixed

hope the k750i is better then it and wont stuff up

Posted by s0real
that's crap.
i was hoping that i wouldn't have the same issues as with the k700.
i had mine fixed twice...

i guess it was to be expected though.

I really like the joystick design. It's the main reason I chose an SE when I first went to SE but the joysticks are rubbish. Every SE phone I've had the joystick slowly starts to degrade.

Want to know what's sickening about it too? I have a 2001 Panasonic GD95 and it's been through more abuse than any of my Sony Ericssons and the joystick still works exactly the same as when it was new. Not a single problem with it. In terms of quality, it's the best phone I've ever had.

Posted by max_wedge
the fact is the mechanical aspects of SE phones are not that great quality. Ergonomics and design and good feature sets are SE strong points.

the electronics is good quality and has good shock resistance, but mechanical aspects let it down - basically if you drop it you could be lucky or you could be unlucky. Blokias can be drop kicked without to much problem

After a week the joystick of my K750 started squeaking when pressing it down ("south").
A bit dissapointing, but whatever... as long as it's responsive I won't send it in for repair.

se really need to sort this joystick problem out

i hope its gonna be ok in the w800i doubt it though

SE phones are great... except for the JOYSTICK!
At least this is true for those phones with 8 directional sticks.

Once owned a t68i and t610, never had problem with the stick despite of more than 6 months use each. These phones are only equipped with 4 directional sticks.

Owned a k500 for 4 months. Crap joystick. Started being totally unresponsive after 2 months. Owned a k700 and 3 months later the stick became dead too...

In the future, will no longer buy any SE w/ joystick. next target w550!

it doesnt it depend on the usage but on the USER !!!!

ive had almost every SE joystick phone since the first one. T68... and ive never had a problem. i just wonder. how can ppl treat their stuff like crap, and still expect it to work ???

Posted by cloysterpete5

I treat my phones as carefully as possible (never ever dropped any of my phones) and I treat them with as much care as is possible with daily usage. All of my previous SE phones have had knackered joysticks, they just got to the point where you had to press them really hard before they responded. My t68i lasted a year while with the T630 I changed tactics, with this I tried to preserve (something which you shouldn't need to do!) the stick by never using it while gaming and it still shonked out after about 15 months . Of course i've had no problems with the K750i yet and this time i've got this little blower thing to try and get all the dust out of the huge gap around the stick, must be clogging it up or something?.

I don't want to be forced to upgrade my phone after a year!, or at least if I do I expect to be able to sell the thing for a decent price.

Well, part of the reason is dust. My T300 had that problem once, brought it to a service center and the guy there opened it up cleaned off all the dust from around the joystick and the phone worked fine. Still going strong after more than a year now

yeah joysticks definitely cause more problems than individual buttons for directions. like nokia hardly uses joysticks... but i like the feel and stuff of joysticks, it's just that they leave a big hole for dust to enter and also get unresponsive after a while.

Posted by tazmania
i dont know. maybe im lucky.. i dont wanna push my luck by talkin about it too much...

but i treat my phones quite badly.
i drop them quite often. but have never had problems with the joystick.

maybe dust is the real problem...

A mate had a similar prob with her SE, sent it to Voda repair centre, came back just as bad. After a huge tiff they eventually replaced her phone... Maybe you should make some noise...

Same here. All my of my Sony Ericssons have been well looked after. My Panasonic with the joystick on the other hand, was well looked after but dropped numerous times - mainly in a drunken state - and so far, the joystick works perfectly after more abuse and use than any of my Sony Ericssons.

Hmm... so far I haven't had any joystick problems with my T68i , K700i and now K750i. Have you guys been playing a lot of games on your phone (i.e. heavy joystick usage)?

Posted by evinco
Dammit, I love my joystick but I use it heavily (games/WAP/going through menus managing files) and now I'm petrified it'll become unresponsive very quickly

Had the phone for two weeks and joystick is still fine so far.. knock on wood.

bring back the jogdial!!! z5 style...

Not really, no.

Yeah I play alot of games that are demanding on the joystick so I guess this is why it has become unresponsive for me.

Yeah, had the same problem with my one after about 1weeks use. Believe it or not, the squeak is now gone. All my SE from T68, T68i, T610, K700 have had superb joysticks. The K700i in particulary was used regularly ie: Tennis, never had a problem. The good thing about the K750i is you can now purchase and replace the joystick, something that could not have been done with the K700i.

Thing that annoys me with my K750 joystick:

Pushing up, down, or right gives a nice 'click', but pushing left is really loose and spongy.

I think joysticks (or any moving parts) are weak points in phones (especially SE phones)... I would love SE to make a really solid (metal?) phone with keypad buttons only.

that phone was awesome! ive still got one! but the battery only lasts about half a day.

ooh and my k750's joystick has stopped working after 2 months. up left and enter dont work very well at all, it happened very randomly as well! it was fine then i pick it up to look at photos. got to the folder and it just died. very strange.

im taking it back to get repaired tomorrow. the oxford st cpw branch said it should only take 24hrs, i can live with my v/z800 till for that long!

Posted by djole89
I think the problem with k750's joystick is that a lot of dust enter between joystick and phone, and dust is electronics worst nightmare (besides water).....

Posted by hItMaN..
people a good thing to do is just get ur Hoover and do it around the joystick and it should work . i done it 2 mine today and it wrks much beta jus like new

Posted by honus_700
I have to agree with the poor joystick on K700 too...its totally unresponsive now...have to force it or use the number pad to access menu items >.< So dumb...can't play games either cos just no point...then again i prolly busted the joystick cos of the games haha...and the sticker coming off...mine came off too and then i lost it so i can't stick it on again, can you get replacements by any chance?! lol....My "online" sticker is also on the last days of its life too...glad I'm upgrading soon...guess i'll go for the W800 then...since it doesn have them quickshare stickers

my k750 joystick just died today - tried the hoover trick but no job

my k750i joystick has became slow in responding after 2 months now, i really have 2 push all the way in the direction that i want to go, gona go try hoover job now c if that works 4 me

Posted by jemo
works a bit better now, still unresponsive for up and down

Posted by WildNomad
Mine failed just two days ago... After the vacuum cleaner session, the joystick response is a bit better although the down and select positions are still rather hard to use.

I can't believe this happened to a one-month old phone! I already own a T68i, a T300, a T610 and a K700i but none of them got any joystick problems even after years of use.

Sigh...
